Sunrisers Hyderabad Opt to Bowl First Against Gujarat Titans in IPL Showdown
Match Preview: SRH vs GT
In Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on May 12, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to field first in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Gujarat Titans (GT).
Both teams are tied with 14 points, making this match crucial as the winner will ascend to the top of the league standings.
Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, enter the match with high spirits after securing four consecutive wins, while SRH, under Cummins, has also been in excellent form, winning four out of their last five games.
Cummins emphasized the importance of the match, stating, “We’re opting to bowl first. Since we haven’t played here before, we want to assess the conditions with the ball first. Whatever we need to chase should hopefully be more manageable later on. The data suggests that teams batting first have had more success on this pitch, but there are always various factors at play. It’s still a gut feeling; no one can perfectly read pitches,” he explained.
He further added, “This is a vital game, and the tournament is reaching an intense phase. While it feels significant, we’ve earned the right to take chances and aim for the finals. We have three matches left, and we haven’t played in a while. Regarding GT’s better record against us, I told the team that there’s nothing to lose now; the pressure is on them. No changes to our lineup,” Cummins concluded.
Shubman Gill also expressed a preference for bowling first, stating, “I’m not focused on stats, but we were inclined to bowl first as well. This pitch appears to be better than what we’ve encountered in recent matches. Consistency in our thought process and execution is key, especially as we approach the end of the tournament. We’re bringing our best game and sticking with the same team,” he said.
