SRH Triumphs Against PBKS

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], May 7: Pat Cummins, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), expressed his joy after the team secured a 33-run victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their IPL 2026 match on Wednesday.

The match took place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, where SRH's win propelled them to the top of the points table, despite a remarkable unbeaten century from PBKS's Cooper Connolly.

Cummins, who earned the Player of the Match title for his bowling performance, commended his team's overall display, emphasizing their effective batting and disciplined bowling. He acknowledged the challenge of defending a total against a formidable Punjab Kings team but felt they executed their strategy well.

“Punjab is a strong team, having been at the top before this match. The way our batters performed to reach our total was impressive. Closing out the game, especially while bowling second against such a side, is always tough, but we were quite clinical,” Cummins remarked during the post-match presentation.

He noted that his team adopts an aggressive strategy from the outset, particularly with players like Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, aiming to maximize runs rather than fixate on a target, while remaining adaptable as the innings progresses.

“We prefer to play at our own pace and not start conservatively. That’s not really Abhi or Travis’s style. We focus on maximizing our scoring potential without worrying too much about a total. If the game shifts, we can adjust accordingly,” he explained.

Cummins expressed his happiness with the outcome and praised Connolly for his impressive batting this season, highlighting his importance to the team and noting that it’s a positive time for Australian players in general.

“I’m pleased to see Connolly performing well. It’s a good result for us and great to see the Australians excelling. He’s been a standout with the bat this season. While he’s not bowling right now, he’s proving his value as a batsman. It’s a good time for Australia,” Cummins added.

In the match, PBKS, chasing a target of 236, faced an early setback, collapsing to 23/3, which was detrimental to their chances. Connolly shone with a brilliant 107* off 59 balls, becoming the youngest overseas centurion in IPL history, but he lacked sufficient support as PBKS ended their innings at 202/7.

SRH had set a formidable total of 235/4, bolstered by fifties from Heinrich Klaasen (69*) and Ishan Kishan (55), along with quick contributions from Travis Head (38) and Abhishek Sharma (35).

On the bowling front, Cummins effectively rotated his bowlers to prevent PBKS from gaining any momentum. The wicket-takers for SRH included Cummins (2/34), Shivang Kumar (2/45), Sakib Hussain (1/40), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (1/11 in 2 overs).
