Gujarat Titans Triumph in IPL Match

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], April 18: Shubman Gill's outstanding half-century guided the Gujarat Titans (GT) to a five-wicket win against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium.


Gill dazzled with an impressive 86 runs off 50 deliveries, further solidifying his remarkable form in Ahmedabad. His innings included eight boundaries and four sixes, helping GT chase down a target of 181 runs in just 19.4 overs.


This victory marks GT's third consecutive win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), following earlier triumphs against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).


With this win, GT now holds 6 points from 5 matches in IPL 2026, climbing two spots to fourth place on the points table.


On the other hand, KKR is still in search of their first win in IPL 2026, remaining at the bottom of the table with just one point.


In their chase of 181, Sai Sudharsan and Gill opened the innings for GT, starting steadily with 9 runs off Vaibhav Arora's first over. The duo maintained the momentum, scoring 11 runs off Kartik Tyagi's next over.


They accelerated their scoring, hitting Anukul Roy for 20 runs in the third over. Veteran spinner Sunil Narine managed to rein in the scoring in the following over, allowing only 5 runs.


GT reached their 50-run mark in just 4.2 overs. Narine broke the opening partnership by dismissing Sudharsan for 22, bringing Jos Butler to the crease. Butler quickly made an impact, hitting Narine for two fours and a six.


GT concluded the power-play at 71-1. Gill continued to dominate, scoring 12 runs off Roy in the seventh over. However, Chakaravarthy dismissed Butler for 25 in the tenth over, marking the seventh time he has gotten Butler out in T20s.


Gill reached his fifty in just 27 balls and continued to score aggressively, hitting a six and a four off Chakaravarthy in the 12th over. Narine bowled a tight over, finishing with figures of 1/28 in four overs.


Chakaravarthy struck again in the 15th over, taking out Sundar for 13 and marking his 100th IPL wicket for KKR, becoming the third player in the franchise's history to achieve this milestone.


In the 17th over, after hitting a boundary, Arora dismissed Gill for 86 runs. Glenn Phillips attempted to finish the match with a six in the final over but was caught at deep mid-wicket after scoring 19 runs.


Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan then secured the victory for GT, clinching the match in the final over.


Earlier, Cameron Green's first half-century of IPL 2026 helped KKR set a target of 180 runs. Green scored 79 runs off 55 balls, marking his second-highest IPL score.


Tim Seifert and Ajinkya Rahane opened for KKR, but Rahane fell for a golden duck in the first over, bringing Angkrish Raghuvanshi to the crease. Raghuvanshi started well with two boundaries but was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada for just 8 runs, leading to Green joining Seifert.


Seifert, in his first match of IPL 2026, contributed 19 runs before Rabada sent him back to the pavilion, leaving KKR at 37/3 during the power-play.


Rovman Powell then joined Green, and after a shaky start, Powell began to find his rhythm, hitting a six off Prasidh Krishna. He followed up with another six and a four off Ashok Sharma, helping KKR reach 80 runs after 10 overs.


Green took on Rashid Khan in the 12th over, hitting him for a six and a four, and continued his aggressive play, reaching his maiden half-century this season.


Rinku Singh joined Green but was dismissed for just 1 run by Rabada. Ramandeep Singh came in next, hitting a six and two fours before getting out for 17.


In the 18th over, Siraj took his second wicket, dismissing Sunil Narine for a duck, while Kartik Tyagi managed to score a six off Siraj's final delivery.


Gujarat Titans effectively restricted KKR to 180 runs, conceding only 15 runs in the last three overs. Cameron Green was the standout performer for KKR with his 79 runs.


Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers for GT, claiming three wickets, while Sharma and Siraj took two wickets each, with Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan contributing one wicket each.
