Shubman Gill Reflects on Gujarat Titans' Victory and Areas for Improvement
Gill's Insights on the Match Against KKR
In Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans' captain Shubman Gill acknowledged the significance of their recent win but noted that there is still room for enhancement in their chase against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Gill expressed his disappointment at not finishing the match, emphasizing his role as a finisher and his commitment to improving in future games.
His impressive half-century led the Gujarat Titans to a five-wicket triumph over Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday.
“We ideally wanted to finish the game a couple of overs earlier, and I was quite let down by my dismissal. I aimed to be there until the end to secure the win. I hope to achieve that in my next opportunity,” Gill remarked post-match.
This victory marks the third consecutive win for GT in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), following previous successes against Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. With this win, GT has accumulated 6 points from 5 matches, climbing to fourth place in the standings.
Meanwhile, KKR is still in search of their first win in IPL 2026, remaining at the bottom of the table with just one point.
Gill showcased his talent with a score of 86 runs off 50 balls at the Narendra Modi Stadium, maintaining his excellent form in Ahmedabad. His performance included eight fours and four sixes, helping his team chase down a target of 181 in 19.4 overs.
He also shared that he utilized the break before IPL 2026 to enhance his fitness and mental approach to the game, focusing on both technical and tactical improvements.
“I had a couple of months to prepare, and fitness was a key area I concentrated on. Additionally, I worked on the mental side of the game to enhance my overall performance,” he added.
Gill's outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match title, and with this innings, he has taken the orange cap from Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He now has a total of 251 runs in 4 matches, boasting an average of 62.75, which includes three half-centuries.
