Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], May 21: Shubman Gill, captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT), celebrated a significant achievement on Thursday by scoring his 6,000th run in T20 cricket.
This milestone was reached during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where Gill scored 64 runs off 37 balls, hitting seven fours and three sixes, achieving a strike rate of 172.97.
With this performance, Gill became the second-fastest Indian to reach the 6,000-run mark in T20s, completing it in 185 innings, just behind KL Rahul, who did it in 166 innings. The record for the fastest is held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who accomplished the feat in 162 innings. Gill ranks as the seventh-fastest player overall to achieve this milestone.
Before turning 27, only three other players have surpassed 6,000 runs in Men's T20s: Babar Azam (7,055 runs), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (6,385 runs), and Will Jacks (6,120 runs).
In his 185 innings, Gill has amassed a total of 6,028 runs, including six centuries and 38 fifties, with his highest score being 129.
This season, Gill has scored 616 runs in 13 innings, maintaining an impressive average of 47.38 and a strike rate of 161.67, featuring six fifties and a top score of 86. He currently stands as the second-highest run-scorer of the season.
In the match, CSK chose to bowl first. The Titans posted a total of 229 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan (84 runs off 53 balls, with seven fours and four sixes), Shubman Gill (64 runs off 37 balls, with seven fours and three sixes), and Jos Buttler (57 not out off 27 balls, with six fours and four sixes).
CSK now faces the challenge of chasing down 230 runs in 20 overs to keep their playoff aspirations alive.
