Maharani Trophy T20 Tournament Unveiled

On July 20, Indian cricketer Shreyanka Patil expressed her enthusiasm for the Karnataka State Cricket Association's (KSCA) recent launch of the Maharani Trophy KSCA T20 tournament, describing the trophy unveiling as a memorable occasion.

Patil emphasized the significance of introducing a franchise-style competition akin to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the domestic level, highlighting it as a noteworthy advancement.

The tournament will feature five franchises: Bengaluru Blasters, Hubli Tigers, Mangaluru Dragons, Mysore Warriors, and Shivamogga Lioness. It is set to kick off on August 4 at the Alur Grounds, with the final match scheduled for August 10 at the renowned M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

“This trophy unveiling is a fantastic initiative by the KSCA. It holds special significance as we have witnessed similar events in the IPL and WPL, and seeing it at the domestic level is something we should all appreciate,” Patil remarked.

Venkatesh Prasad, KSCA Chairman and former Indian cricketer, underscored the tournament's role in providing greater opportunities for women cricketers. He noted that events like this, especially with matches held under lights at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, will inspire young talent.

“We already have numerous young women cricketers making their mark on the global stage, such as those in the WPL and the Indian national team, including Shreyanka Patil. With initiatives like this, we aim to nurture many more talents like her. Playing under lights at a prestigious venue like Chinnaswamy Stadium is a tremendous encouragement, and we have witnessed a lot of talent,” Prasad stated.

Diana Edulji, a former Indian cricketer, praised the Maharani Trophy KSCA T20 tournament for offering women cricketers the chance to compete under floodlights, describing it as a crucial experience that will enhance their confidence and readiness for international cricket.

“Playing under floodlights is essential for Indian players, as it helps them acclimatize to such conditions,” Edulji added.
