Rutherford Reflects on His Journey with Mumbai Indians

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], April 19: As the Mumbai Indians gear up for their IPL clash against the Gujarat Giants, batter Sherfane Rutherford shared insights about his collaboration with batting coach Kieron Pollard and his aspirations to carve out a unique legacy with the team.

Having been part of the 2020 championship-winning squad, Rutherford did not get the chance to play but is now set to face the Giants, a team he previously scored crucial runs for before being traded to MI ahead of the auction.

Reflecting on his time with MI in 2020, he expressed, "It was a fantastic experience, and I cherished every moment. The drive to win is essential; no team will hand you a victory. Success is achievable with determination. A tournament's start doesn't define its outcome; there's always room to recover from setbacks," he stated, as reported by MI's official website.

On his experience working with Pollard, he noted that it has significantly benefited him. "Having known him for a long time makes our relationship easy. We spend considerable time practicing together, and he addresses many of my queries. I see this as a chance to establish my own legacy within the team," he remarked.

In his four innings for MI, Rutherford has accumulated 102 runs at an average of 34.00 and an impressive strike rate of 200.00, highlighted by a remarkable 71* off 31 balls against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

He described Wankhede Stadium as a "great pitch" and expressed his desire to secure victories for his team. "Wankhede offers a solid batting surface. Once you settle in, it becomes challenging for bowlers. My goal is to establish myself and remain until the end. Although I wished to secure a win in that match, it didn't happen. However, that innings boosted my confidence for the tournament ahead. I hope to contribute to a few wins for the Mumbai Indians," he added.

Discussing his game-day preparations, he said, "Most of my preparation occurs during net sessions. My batting approach in practice mirrors my game strategy. I focus on getting singles initially before targeting boundaries. I adhere to my training plans and maintain self-belief. On match day, I keep things straightforward and avoid overthinking, as it ultimately comes down to bat versus ball. I aim to enjoy the game."
