His transition from Rajasthan Royals has sparked discussions about potential captaincy, though he remains focused on contributing to the team's success. With CSK needing a win against Lucknow Super Giants to keep playoff hopes alive, Samson's performance will be crucial in the upcoming matches.

Samson's Impact on CSK

Sanju Samson has made a significant contribution to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the IPL 2026 season. After transferring from the Rajasthan Royals (RR), he quickly established himself as a key player, amassing 402 runs in just 10 matches, which includes two centuries. Despite the inconsistent performances of other CSK batters, Samson's excellent form has kept the team's playoff hopes alive.

Since joining CSK, there have been discussions about whether he might take over the captaincy from Ruturaj Gaikwad. With more leadership experience from his time at Rajasthan Royals, where he led the team to the finals in 2022, many see him as a potential captain. However, CSK management continues to support Gaikwad in his role.

As CSK prepares for a crucial match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Samson addressed why he did not pursue the captaincy upon his arrival from the Royals. He emphasized that leadership was not a priority for him, stating, "I wanted to come out of there and join another team. So in that transaction, you can't actually have demands. Honestly, you are trying to get into a new home. When you're trying to get into a new home, you don't go there with demands, is what I have learned to be very honest." He expressed his commitment to proving his worth and contributing to the team.

Samson also praised Ruturaj Gaikwad, describing him as one of the most confident cricketers in India. He remarked, "Rutu is honestly a very nice, a very different kind of an Indian cricketing superstar. He is a superstar. He is leading one of the biggest franchises. But he doesn't behave like a normal superstar." Samson acknowledged Gaikwad's confidence and leadership qualities, noting that actions speak louder than words in cricket.

Currently, CSK sits sixth in the standings with five wins and five losses, and a victory over LSG is crucial for their playoff aspirations.
