Sameer Rizvi Shines with Match-Winning Performance for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026
Rizvi's Stellar Performance Against Mumbai Indians
New Delhi [India] - April 4: Sameer Rizvi, a batter for the Delhi Capitals (DC), attributed his impressive performance against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2026 match at Arun Jaitley Stadium to his dedication to self-improvement.
After being awarded Player of the Match, Rizvi remarked, “I’ve put in significant effort to enhance my game. I focused on my weaknesses, particularly my struggles against fast bowlers, which I addressed over the past year. I aim to adapt my play to the situation, taking my time to settle in before executing my shots. Watching the ball closely has been key, and I applied the same approach in the last match. Scoring runs here boosts confidence and opens doors for young players like me.”
As per CricViz, Rizvi made a notable entrance in the IPL by hitting a six off his very first ball against Rashid Khan in 2024 while playing for CSK. After a slow start, he has now hit his stride with DC, achieving three consecutive fifties.
Initially, Rizvi scored 114 runs in his first eight IPL innings, averaging 16.3. However, his performance dramatically improved in the subsequent three matches, where he accumulated 218 runs, including three half-centuries.
In the recent match, Rizvi's remarkable innings of 90 runs led the Delhi Capitals to a six-wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians. This win marks DC's second victory in their last seven encounters against MI and only their second win in six home games since 2025, the other being a Super Over win against the Rajasthan Royals.
Chasing a target of 163 runs, Rizvi scored his 90 runs off just 51 balls, featuring seven fours and an equal number of sixes. He currently holds the Orange Cap with a total of 160 runs in just two innings this IPL.
Rizvi's 90 runs represent the second-highest score by an impact player in IPL history, following Jos Buttler's 107* against KKR at Eden Gardens in 2024.
Additionally, his score is the third-highest by a DC player against MI in IPL history, trailing only Virender Sehwag's 95 not out in 2013 and Jason Roy's 91 not out in 2018. His seven sixes are also tied for the most by a DC player against MI, alongside Rishabh Pant in 2019 and Tristan Stubbs in 2024.
