Sai Sudharsan Sets IPL Record as Fastest to 2000 Runs
Sai Sudharsan Achieves Milestone in IPL
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 24: In a remarkable feat, Sai Sudharsan of the Gujarat Titans (GT) has etched his name in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history by becoming the fastest player to score 2000 runs. He reached this milestone during a match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday.
Sudharsan accomplished this in just 47 innings, surpassing the previous record held by West Indies great Chris Gayle, who achieved the milestone in 48 innings. Needing 72 runs to reach 2000 before the match began, Sudharsan hit a six off Krunal Pandya on the last ball of the ninth over to secure his place in the record books.
He finished the match with an impressive 100 runs off 58 balls, marking his first century of the IPL 2026 season.
With this performance, Sudharsan now boasts a total of 2028 runs in 47 IPL innings, maintaining an average of 47.16 and a strike rate of 146.96. In the ongoing IPL 2026 season, he has accumulated 235 runs in seven innings, averaging 33.57 with a strike rate of 155.63.
In the match, Sudharsan's century propelled GT to a formidable score of 205/3 against RCB.
After winning the toss, RCB captain Rajat Patidar chose to field first. However, the Gujarat Titans quickly took charge. The opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sudharsan laid a solid foundation during the powerplay.
The duo put up a partnership of 57 runs without losing a wicket, with Gill contributing a steady 32 runs off 24 balls, including two fours and a six, while Sudharsan continued to shine. They completed their 100-run opening stand in the 10th over.
Suyash Sharma eventually dismissed Gill in the 13th over after conceding a six, bringing Jos Buttler to the crease.
Sudharsan reached his half-century in just 33 balls and then accelerated to score a stunning century, which came off 58 balls and included 11 boundaries and 5 sixes.
By the 15th over, GT had established a strong position at 155/1. RCB's bowlers struggled to contain the runs, with Josh Hazlewood providing a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Sudharsan in the 16th over, which brought Washington Sundar to bat.
Sundar made an immediate impact, hitting a massive six off Hazlewood, while Suyash Sharma bowled a brilliant 17th over, allowing only four runs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar followed up with a tidy over, conceding just five runs and taking out Jos Buttler for 25, which effectively slowed down GT's scoring rate. The momentum shifted as Hazlewood bowled a tight 19th over, allowing only eight runs and tightening RCB's grip on the match.
In the final over, Jason Holder unleashed his power, hitting two sixes and a boundary to help the Gujarat Titans surpass the 200-run mark.
