CSK's Captain Shines in Challenging Conditions

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India] - On April 26, during the IPL 2026 match at Chepauk, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad showcased his skills with an impressive unbeaten score of 74, leading his team to a total of 158/7 against Gujarat Titans (GT).

The pitch initially favored pace bowlers, later providing grip for spinners, which kept CSK under pressure from GT's bowling unit, spearheaded by the effective Kagiso Rabada.

After winning the toss, GT chose to bowl first, a decision that quickly paid off as Rabada (3/25 in 4 overs) dismantled CSK's top order during the Powerplay. He struck early, dismissing Sanju Samson (11) and Urvil Patel (4) in the same over, leaving CSK struggling at 25/2 within four overs.

CSK's middle order struggled to gain momentum, with Dewald Brevis falling to Manav Suthar (1/22 in 3 overs) for a mere 2 runs off 9 balls. Shivam Dube briefly ignited hope with a quick 22 off 17 balls before being dismissed by Arshad Khan (2/43 in 4 overs).

Despite the fall of wickets around him, Ruturaj Gaikwad remained a pillar of strength for the five-time IPL champions. He struck six fours and four sixes during his 60-ball innings, reaching his half-century and accelerating in the closing overs.

Gaikwad received late support from Jamie Overton, who scored 18 runs off just 6 balls, including three boundaries and a six off Arshad Khan, helping CSK surpass the 150-run mark. Kartik Sharma also added a brisk 15 runs before falling to Rabada, marking the bowler's third wicket.

Kagiso Rabada emerged as the standout bowler for the Titans, concluding his four overs with figures of 3 for 25. Mohammed Siraj also performed well, with 1/23 in 4 overs. Manav Suthar (1/22) and Jason Holder (0/22 in 4 overs) effectively controlled the run rate during the middle overs, although Arshad Khan was costly in the final overs.

CSK now aims to defend their total of 158 to secure their fourth victory of the season.
