RCB Engages with Local Culture in Raipur

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], May 9: In preparation for their eagerly awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team took a break from their training to delve into the vibrant culture and traditions of Chhattisgarh. They participated in an expo that showcased the region's local cuisine, music, art, and heritage, allowing the players to connect with the essence of the state.

Having played their initial five home games at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, RCB will now host their final two 'home' matches at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, as previously arranged.

RCB's captain, Rajat Patidar, expressed his enjoyment of the cultural immersion in Chhattisgarh. He noted the traditional music, drum performances, and dances as highlights, emphasizing that learning about the tribal communities and their history added depth to their visit.

“I truly appreciated the experience, especially when we arrived to the sounds of traditional drumming and dancing. Learning about the local tribal communities and their history was particularly special,” Patidar remarked.

One of the standout moments for the players was discovering the renowned Godna art form, a traditional tattoo practice that has transitioned into textile and clothing designs, ensuring the art is preserved through generations.

Krunal Pandya was especially captivated by the artistry and narratives behind the Godna artwork. “This is my first visit to Raipur, and it has been incredible. I explored the rich heritage and culture that Chhattisgarh and Raipur have to offer. The craftsmanship and the way they preserve their art is truly unique,” he shared.

The RCB squad also indulged in a variety of local dishes, such as Charota Bhaji, Kanda Bhaji, Tikur Sherbet, and traditional ragi-based meals, allowing them to savor the local flavors of Bastar and Chhattisgarh.

“Cricket has always fostered connections beyond the field, and experiences like these enrich our players' visits. From tasting local cuisine to learning about the Godna art form and the communities that uphold it, this has been an authentic and rewarding experience for the team. Raipur has embraced us with incredible warmth and support, and we are thrilled to bring RCB to a city that has made us feel at home,” stated Rajesh Menon, CEO of Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
