KKR Triumphs in a Nail-Biting Super Over

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 27: Rinku Singh played a pivotal role in guiding the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a decisive win over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during the first super over of the current Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

In the super over, LSG managed to score just one run, setting a target of two runs for KKR. Singh quickly sealed the match by hitting a four on the very first ball.

Earlier in the match, KKR faced a challenging situation while defending 17 runs in the final over. Tyagi struggled with two no-balls, allowing Himmat Singh to capitalize with a stunning four on the second delivery.

Despite this, Tyagi bounced back by dismissing Singh on the next ball, but Shami's six on the final delivery pushed the game into the super over.

LSG's innings began poorly with the early loss of Mitchell Marsh during the Powerplay. Captain Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram attempted to stabilize the innings.

However, KKR's disciplined bowling attack, spearheaded by Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy, made scoring runs a challenge.

The duo adopted a cautious strategy, reaching only 57/1 after nine overs. Although they formed a 49-run partnership, the lack of boundaries caused the required run rate to climb steadily.

The match shifted in KKR's favor during the middle overs. Just when LSG needed to accelerate, Markram was caught spectacularly by Rinku Singh off Cameron Green's bowling for 30.

Shortly after, Pant's innings ended due to a smart review by KKR's keeper Tim Seifert, leaving LSG struggling at 81/3 in the 13th over.

With the required run rate escalating to 11 runs per over, the pressure mounted on Ayush Badoni and the lower order. Nicholas Pooran's innings was brief, as he was dismissed by Varun Chakaravarthy for just 9 runs.

Mukul Choudhary followed Pooran back to the pavilion for a mere 1 run, bringing Himmat Singh to the crease.

Singh and Badoni began to attack Kartik Tyagi in the 17th over, scoring 14 runs.

In the next over, Chakaravarthy dismissed Badoni for 24 runs off 19 balls, bringing George Linde to bat.

Vaibhav Arora then took out Linde for 8 runs in the 19th over, leading to Mohammed Shami's arrival at the crease.

Shami made an immediate impact, hitting a four on his first ball.

Earlier in the match, Rinku Singh's impressive unbeaten innings of 83 runs off 51 balls helped KKR recover from a dire situation, posting a total of 155/7 in their IPL 2026 match against LSG.

KKR had faced a significant collapse, finding themselves at 93/7 in 15 overs, but managed to set a competitive score against LSG.

After winning the toss, LSG captain Rishabh Pant opted to bowl, a decision that was quickly validated by Mohsin Khan's exceptional bowling performance.

Mohsin delivered a devastating opening spell, taking out KKR's key players, including Tim Seifert for a duck and Ajinkya Rahane for just 10 runs.

He continued his onslaught by dismissing Cameron Green, who had threatened with three sixes, and completed a remarkable five-wicket haul (5/23), leaving KKR struggling at 73/6 after 11 overs.

Despite the regular fall of wickets, Rinku Singh's composed innings helped stabilize the team, and as the match progressed, KKR found themselves at 112/7 in 18 overs with Rinku at 43 runs off 40 balls.

In a spectacular finish, Rinku led KKR to score 17 runs in the penultimate over bowled by Mohammed Shami, and then unleashed a barrage of four consecutive sixes in the final over bowled by Digvesh Rathi, amassing 26 runs and concluding KKR's innings at 155/7.

Rinku's innings was highlighted by seven fours and five sixes, finishing with an impressive 83 runs off 51 balls.
