RCB's Rajat Patidar Praises Fearless Batting After Dominant Win Over GT
Patidar's Leadership Shines in RCB's Victory
Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 27: After leading his team to a significant victory against the Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar commended his players for their bold approach at the crease, emphasizing the importance of applying pressure on bowlers without the fear of losing their wickets.
Under Patidar's guidance, RCB continues to thrill its dedicated fanbase. After a 17-year wait for their first title, they clinched their inaugural IPL championship in Ahmedabad last year and have now reached their second consecutive final following a commanding 92-run triumph over GT. Patidar's remarkable innings of 93 not out off just 33 deliveries propelled RCB to an impressive total of 254/5, a target that GT struggled to chase down despite some resistance from Jos Buttler and Rahul Tewatia. The early breakthroughs by Jacob Duffy and Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismantled GT's top order during the powerplay.
In his post-match comments, Patidar highlighted the significance of an aggressive mindset and positive body language, which were evident in RCB's batting performance.
“It was an outstanding game for us, and the way our batsmen dominated was impressive. Everyone played with intent, which was beneficial for us. While we didn’t have a specific plan to attack the GT bowlers, we were prepared to show that we meant business. This attitude was present in every batsman. We discussed in our meeting the need for strong body language and an attacking mindset. Given the importance of this match, qualifier 1, our performance was superb,” he stated.
Patidar is having a remarkable season, accumulating 486 runs in 13 innings with an average of 44.18 and a striking rate of 196.76, including five half-centuries and 41 sixes.
Reflecting on his batting style, he mentioned, “I usually take the first 8-10 balls to assess the pitch and the ball's behavior. After that, I have a clear strategy and focus on putting pressure on the bowlers without worrying about my wicket.”
He also noted that the pitch was challenging for batters aiming for big hits, as it offered good bounce. Patidar praised his bowlers for their exceptional stump-to-stump deliveries.
“We recognized that GT's top three batsmen (Gill, Sudharsan, and Buttler) were crucial, and our plan was to dismiss them during the powerplay, which worked effectively. I believe we can recover well and aim for the finals,” he concluded.
RCB's total of 254/5 was bolstered by stellar performances from Rajat Patidar (93* off 33 balls, including five fours and nine sixes), Virat Kohli (43 off 25 balls, with five fours and a six), and Krunal Pandya (43 off 28 balls, featuring five fours and two sixes). In response, GT's batting lineup crumbled, with only Rahul Tewatia (68 off 43 balls, with eight fours and four sixes) and Jos Buttler (29 off 11 balls, with three fours and two sixes) managing to score above 20 runs, as GT was bowled out for 162. Jacob Duffy (3/39) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/28) effectively dismantled GT's consistent top order, leading to their downfall.
This marks RCB's fifth appearance in the IPL finals, ranking third after the Mumbai Indians (six appearances and five titles) and Chennai Super Kings (ten appearances and five titles).
Additionally, this victory represents the second-largest margin in IPL knockout history, trailing only Rajasthan Royals' 105-run win over Delhi Capitals in 2008.
