RCB Welcomes Venkatesh Iyer: A Strategic Move for IPL 2026
RCB Strengthens Squad with Venkatesh Iyer
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], March 24: Mo Bobat, the director of cricket for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), expressed that acquiring a player of Venkatesh Iyer's caliber is a significant boost for the team, calling it a "no-brainer" as they prepare for the IPL 2026 season.
The Indian all-rounder, who played a pivotal role in Kolkata Knight Riders' IPL 2025 victory, was acquired by RCB for Rs 7 crore during the 2026 IPL auction.
Despite his previous season being less than stellar, where he scored only 142 runs in seven innings with an average of 20.28, Bobat remains optimistic about Iyer's potential impact.
As the IPL 2026 approaches, Bobat noted that while the team has yet to finalize its selections, bringing in a player like Iyer is essential for enhancing competition within the squad.
"We aim to create a competitive environment. Adding someone of Venky's experience and skill is crucial for strengthening our team. We are still in the process of making selection decisions as we approach our first match," Bobat stated.
He further emphasized the importance of building a robust squad to meet their ambitious goals, with final decisions on the lineup expected soon.
Bobat remarked, "At this stage, attracting a player of his quality was a priority for us. We are focused on fostering competition among players, which is vital for our aspirations."
RCB, the defending champions, will commence their title defense against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
