RCB Triumphs Over Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026 Thriller
RCB Secures Victory Against GT in IPL 2026
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 24: In an exhilarating match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) emerged victorious against Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets during their IPL 2026 encounter. The match saw RCB successfully chase down a challenging target of 206 runs with seven balls remaining, thanks to stellar performances from Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal.
RCB faced an early setback when GT's pacer Mohammed Siraj dismissed opener Jacob Bethell, leaving the team at 26/1 within the first three overs. However, Kohli, who scored 81 runs off 44 balls, and Padikkal, who contributed 55 runs from 27 deliveries, steadied the innings. Their partnership of 115 runs in just 59 balls kept RCB on track for the chase.
After the quick dismissals of Kohli and Padikkal, the match tightened as Rashid Khan and Manav Suthar took crucial wickets, leaving RCB at 175/5 after 16 overs. With 31 runs needed from the last four overs, Krunal Pandya stepped up, scoring an unbeaten 23 runs off 12 balls, and played a pivotal role in securing the win.
Krunal's aggressive batting in the 18th over, where he scored 15 runs, significantly eased the pressure. He sealed the victory by pulling a short ball from Jason Holder for a single, leading RCB to a final score of 206/5 in 18.5 overs. This win propelled RCB to second place in the IPL 2026 standings, now holding 10 points from seven matches with five wins and two losses.
Earlier, Gujarat Titans had set a formidable target of 205/3, with Sudharsan's impressive century being the highlight of their innings. After winning the toss, RCB captain Rajat Patidar chose to field first, but GT's openers Shubman Gill and Sudharsan quickly established a strong foundation, reaching 57/0 in the powerplay.
While Gill scored a steady 32 runs off 24 balls, Sudharsan stole the show, reaching his half-century in just 33 balls and later completing his century off 58 balls, featuring 11 fours and 5 sixes. Despite RCB's bowlers struggling initially, Josh Hazlewood provided a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Sudharsan in the 16th over.
RCB's bowlers managed to slow down GT's scoring rate in the latter overs, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Suyash Sharma delivering economical overs. However, Jason Holder's explosive finish in the final over, hitting two sixes and a boundary, propelled GT past the 200-run mark.
