RCB Celebrates Consecutive IPL Championships
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 1: The Vice President of BCCI, Rajeev Shukla, extended his congratulations to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for securing their second consecutive IPL title after a five-wicket triumph against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 2026 final. He also acknowledged the commendable efforts of the Gujarat Titans throughout the tournament.
In a statement to the press, Shukla remarked, “The final was an exceptional game. Both teams that reached this stage demonstrated their capabilities... It was a thrilling match. I am delighted that RCB has achieved back-to-back victories. I also extend my congratulations to the Gujarat Titans.”
Shukla highlighted the impressive performances of key players in the final, particularly the young prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old star shone brightly at the IPL 2026 awards, earning accolades such as Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker of the Season, Orange Cap winner, and Super Sixes of the Season.
Sooryavanshi, hailing from Bihar, had an outstanding tournament with the Rajasthan Royals, amassing 776 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 237.30, making him the highest run-scorer.
At just 15 years and 65 days, he set a new record as the youngest recipient of the Orange Cap, surpassing the previous record held by Gujarat Titans' Sudharsan, who won it at 23 years and 231 days in 2025, and Shubman Gill's record from 2023 at 23 years and 263 days.
“Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is an exceptional talent. His performance has left the entire nation in awe,” Shukla commented.
He also praised Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his bowling prowess, stating, “Bhuvneshwar Kumar's comeback was remarkable. His bowling was outstanding...”
Bhuvneshwar Kumar finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL 2026 season, claiming 28 wickets across 16 matches, playing a pivotal role in RCB's title defense, with impressive figures of 4 for 23 showcasing his ability to take crucial wickets.
In the IPL 2026 final, RCB opted to bowl first, restricting GT to 155/8 in their 20 overs. Washington Sundar (50* off 37 balls, including five fours) and Nishant Sindhu (20 off 18 balls, with three fours) were the only players to surpass the 20-run mark. Rasikh Dar Salam (3/27), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/29), and Josh Hazlewood (2/37) consistently took wickets.
RCB began their chase strongly with a 62-run partnership between Venkatesh Iyer (32 off 16 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes) and Virat Kohli. Although GT fought back, reducing RCB to 132/5, Virat Kohli (75* off 42 balls, with nine fours and three sixes) led RCB to victory with two overs remaining.
This victory marks RCB's second IPL title and their fourth overall in Indian franchise cricket, which includes two Women’s Premier League (WPL) titles.
