RCB's Unprecedented Achievement

In a thrilling match held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a remarkable six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants, thanks to an outstanding unbeaten 85 from stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma. This victory marks a historic achievement, as RCB became the first team in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to win all seven away matches in a single season.

The match, which took place on May 28, 2025, saw RCB chase down a daunting target of 228 runs with eight balls remaining, achieving their highest successful chase and the third-highest total ever recorded in IPL history.

Previously, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) had each won seven away matches in the 2012 season, but both teams suffered losses in their respective away games.

With this victory, RCB finished the group stage in second place on the points table for the first time since 2016, accumulating 19 points. Although they were tied with Punjab, their net run rate of +0.30 placed them just behind Shreyas Iyer's team.

This win also marked the second successful chase of over 200 runs at Lucknow's venue, following Sunrisers Hyderabad's successful chase of 206 runs against the same opponents earlier in the season.

During the match, Lucknow's bowlers struggled, particularly New Zealand's Will O'Rourke, who took two wickets but conceded a staggering 74 runs in his four overs, making it one of the most expensive spells in IPL history.

The match was filled with excitement, as Lucknow's captain Rishabh Pant scored a remarkable 118 runs, propelling his team to a formidable total of 227/3. In response, RCB's Virat Kohli and Phil Salt set a solid foundation during the powerplay, while Jitesh Sharma and Mayank Agarwal continued the momentum, leading RCB to their highest run chase in the tournament's history.

Following this impressive performance, RCB is set to face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on Thursday, while Gujarat will compete against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator on Friday.
