Rajasthan Royals' Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: A Rising Star in Indian Cricket
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Remarkable Journey
New Delhi [India] - Double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker recently praised the impressive ascent of 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a budding talent from Rajasthan Royals (RR), in the cricketing arena. She emphasized that "age is merely a number" and with the right guidance and support, this young batter is destined for greatness.
Sooryavanshi has been making waves in cricket, recently becoming the youngest player to achieve 1,000 T20 runs and the first uncapped player to score two IPL fifties against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). His achievements span domestic cricket, leading India to victory in the U19 World Cup, where he was named 'Player of the Tournament', and showcasing his skills in the prestigious IPL.
During the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) 75th anniversary celebrations in Delhi, Manu Bhaker discussed the potential for Sooryavanshi to be fast-tracked into the Indian senior team. She stated, "If he has good mentorship and the right people around him, age doesn't matter. Talent knows no age; remarkable achievements can occur at any stage of life."
In the ongoing IPL season, Sooryavanshi has scored 357 runs in just eight innings, boasting an impressive average of 44.62 and a strike rate exceeding 234, including a century and two fifties, with a top score of 103.
At the U19 World Cup this year, he was the second-highest run-scorer, amassing 439 runs in seven matches at an average of 62.71 and a strike rate of 169.49, featuring a century and three fifties. Notably, he set a record with 30 sixes, surpassing the previous record of 18 sixes held by South Africa's Dewald Brevis.
Sooryavanshi also leads India in U19 ODIs, with 1,412 runs in 25 innings at an average of 56.48, including four centuries and seven fifties, with a best score of 175.
Since October 2024, his career has been on an upward trajectory, highlighted by a record 58-ball century for India U19 against Australia U19, the fastest by an Indian U19 player in Youth Tests.
During the IPL mega auction for the 2025 season, he secured a contract worth Rs 1.1 crore with Rajasthan Royals, making him the youngest player in IPL history. In a match against Gujarat Titans, he became the youngest T20 centurion and the first Indian to achieve the fastest IPL fifty.
Starting his IPL journey with a six on his first ball, Sooryavanshi has emerged as one of the season's brightest young talents, accumulating 252 runs in seven innings at an average of 36.00 and a strike rate of 206.55, including a century and a fifty. His record-breaking performances continue to impress across formats.
Whether it was his 52-ball century against England last July, making him the youngest and fastest U19 centurion, or his 61-ball 108 against Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he has consistently set records. His 84-ball 190 against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy also made him the youngest List A centurion and the second-fastest among Indians.
