Punjab Kings Achieve Historic T20 Chase Against Delhi Capitals
Historic Victory for Punjab Kings
In a remarkable display of skill, Punjab Kings made history at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi by defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) by five wickets. This victory allowed them to break their own world record, successfully chasing a daunting total of 265 runs with seven balls to spare. This win marks their sixth triumph in seven matches during the 2026 Indian Premier League, maintaining their unbeaten streak (with one match washed out).
After winning the toss, DC opted to bat first, setting a formidable target of 263 runs, largely thanks to KL Rahul's explosive 152 runs off 67 balls. In response, PBKS's Priyansh Arya (43 runs off 17 balls) and Prabhsimran Singh (76 runs off 26 balls) propelled the team to a strong start, achieving 116 runs in the powerplay with a 119-run opening partnership. Shreyas Iyer's impressive 76 runs off 31 balls sealed the victory for the table-toppers.
Record-Breaking Chase
The successful chase of 264 runs is now the highest in T20 cricket history globally. Punjab Kings have set this record twice, making them the only team to have chased totals exceeding 260 runs in T20 cricket. They are the first team to achieve a successful chase of over 250 runs on two occasions, while no other team in the IPL has accomplished this even once.

Interestingly, PBKS had previously set the record in 2024 against KKR, who were captained by Shreyas Iyer at that time. This latest achievement under his leadership further emphasizes his impact as a captain. Previously, he held the record for the two highest successful chases in IPL history against teams he led. Just like today, PBKS had chased down 262 runs against KKR with over two overs to spare.
With this victory, PBKS has now successfully chased a total of over 200 runs for the 11th time, the highest in both IPL and T20 cricket history. Australia and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) follow closely with seven successful chases. In the IPL, no other team has surpassed six successful chases, with Mumbai Indians in second place. This match also marked only the third instance of a 200-plus total being chased against DC, following successful chases by Gujarat Titans last year.
