Mullanpur (Punjab) [India] - April 28: In a remarkable achievement, Punjab Kings (PBKS) batsman Prabhsimran Singh has surpassed the legendary Chris Gayle, now holding the record for the third-highest fifty-plus scores in the franchise's Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
Prabhsimran, enjoying an outstanding season, notched his fourth half-century in just five matches against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Mullanpur, scoring a measured 59 runs off 44 balls, which included six boundaries and a six, achieving a strike rate of 134.09.
This season, he leads the PBKS scoring charts with a total of 347 runs across seven innings, averaging 57.66 and boasting a strike rate of 179.27, featuring four fifties.
Throughout his career with PBKS, spanning 59 matches and 58 innings, he has accumulated 1,651 runs at an average of 28.96 and a strike rate nearing 157, which includes one century and 11 fifties. He has now outperformed Gayle, who recorded 11 fifty-plus scores for PBKS, amassing 1,339 runs in 41 innings at a strike rate of 143.20.
KL Rahul holds the record for the most fifty-plus scores for PBKS, with 2,548 runs in 55 matches and 55 innings, averaging 56.62 and a strike rate of 139.76, including two centuries and 23 fifties (25 fifty-plus scores). Shaun Marsh follows closely with 2,477 runs in 71 matches and 69 innings, averaging 39.95 and a strike rate of 132.74, which includes one century and 20 fifties (21 fifty-plus scores).
In the match, RR won the toss and opted to field first. Priyansh Arya provided a quick start for PBKS, scoring 29 runs off just 11 balls, featuring five fours and a six. Prabhsimran then partnered with Cooper Connolly, who scored 30 runs off 14 balls, to build a 59-run partnership. Despite a tight spell from Ravindra Jadeja (0/32 in four overs), Marcus Stoinis ensured a strong finish for PBKS, scoring an unbeaten 62 runs off 22 balls, leading the team to a total of 222/5 in 20 overs.
