Match Overview

Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) [India], October 24: In a recent Indian Super League (ISL) match at Kalinga Stadium, NorthEast United's Moroccan striker Alaaeddine Ajaraie failed to secure a victory for his team, resulting in a goalless draw against Odisha FC.

The Highlanders had a golden opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty after Stephen Eze was penalized for a handball. However, Ajaraie's shot from the spot hit the crossbar, leaving the scoreline unchanged.

NorthEast United initiated the match with a promising chance in the fifth minute, as Nikola Ninković connected with a brilliant cross from Jithin MS, but his right-footed shot was expertly saved by Odisha's goalkeeper, Hrithik Tiwari. Odisha quickly responded with Everton Nascimento attempting a long-range shot from 35 yards, which went off target. NorthEast United continued to press, with Ajaraie receiving a well-placed through ball, but once again, Tiwari was there to deny him.

As the second half unfolded, both teams made tactical substitutions in hopes of breaking the deadlock. Odisha brought on Nandhakumar Sekar for Jeremy Zohminghlua in the 67th minute, while NorthEast United introduced Parthib Gogoi and Ethyan González shortly after.

In the 86th minute, Redeem Tlang replaced Macarton Nickson for the Highlanders, and Imran Khan came on for Lalrinfela Khiangte just before the end of regulation time.

NorthEast United pushed hard for a late goal, coming close in the first minute of stoppage time when Moyano sent a curling shot wide after receiving a pass from Tlang. A late handball by Eze during a corner kick led to a penalty decision by referee K. Ramdasan deep into stoppage time.

Ajaraie took the penalty but unfortunately hit the woodwork, marking the end of the match without a winner and denying NorthEast United the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table.
