Dhoni's Potential Return to IPL

In Bengaluru, Karnataka, former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni recently addressed his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL), suggesting that he might make a decision regarding another season before December.

Having missed the entire IPL 2026 season due to fitness concerns, particularly with his calf, Dhoni shared his thoughts during a healthcare event in the city.

When asked about the possibility of playing another season, Dhoni humorously remarked, “Doc, I will need to undergo some tests. You’ll have to provide me with the results, and then I’ll assess my fitness before December to determine if I can play one more season.”

He further added, “If I’m not fit enough, you’ll need to ensure everything is done correctly to keep this old vintage vehicle running smoothly. The pressure is on you,” he joked.

In recent years, particularly during the latter part of the 2020s, Dhoni's position in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting order has diminished, as he typically comes in during the slog overs to add some excitement and boost the team's score with his renowned power-hitting.

Dhoni ranks among the top batters in IPL history, holding the seventh position on the all-time run-scorers list with 5,439 runs at an average of 38.30, including 24 fifties in 242 innings across 278 matches. As a captain, he has led CSK to five IPL championships and two Champions League T20 titles. However, since Ruturaj Gaikwad took over the captaincy in 2024, CSK has struggled to replicate their previous success, finishing last in 2025 and eighth this year. Their last IPL title came under Dhoni's leadership in 2023.
