Match Preview: Mohun Bagan vs Inter Kashi

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 11: Mohun Bagan Super Giant is set to seek a return to form as they take on Inter Kashi in an Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 match at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata this Tuesday.

The match is scheduled to start at 19:30 IST and will be available for live streaming on FanCode, as well as broadcast on Sony Sports TEN 2, according to a recent announcement.

This fixture holds particular importance for Mohun Bagan as they defend their title. The Mariners enter this match after a 1-1 draw against FC Goa. Under the guidance of head coach Sergio Lobera, the team has shown a blend of offensive drive and solid defense throughout the season, although they have dropped points in five of their last seven ISL matches.

Currently, they are positioned second in the league standings with 21 points from 10 games. A victory could propel them to the top of the table with 24 points, contingent on the outcome of East Bengal's match.

In a pre-match statement, Sergio Lobera emphasized the need for his players to stay sharp and not underestimate their opponents. He remarked, “If we assume this will be an easy win, it would be a significant error. I am confident that without giving our all, victory will elude us.”

He added, “Our focus should be on securing points rather than worrying about goal difference. We must be more decisive in the final moments. Apuia is crucial for us as he provides balance to the team.”

Forward Jamie Maclaren has been instrumental in their attack, netting nine goals this season. He has received support from Subhasish Bose, who leads the team in assists, along with Liston Colaco and Robinho on the flanks. In midfield, Lalengmawia Ralte (Apuia), Anirudh Thapa, and Sahal Abdul Samad have been vital, while Vishal Kaith has ensured stability in goal.

Midfielder Abhishek Suryavanshi spoke about the collective mindset within the squad, stating, “Everyone is eager to excel, but our primary goal is to support the team and secure victories. My focus is on team success rather than individual accolades. For me, it’s about daily improvement and learning from my teammates.”

On the other hand, Inter Kashi arrives at this match following a 2-3 loss to NorthEast United FC. They have struggled recently, suffering five defeats in their last seven ISL encounters, and currently sit tenth with 11 points from 10 matches.

Coach Abhijit Mondal acknowledged the difficulty of facing a formidable opponent away from home but expressed confidence in his squad. “Habas has been with us for two years, and I plan to maintain our existing system. He was present in training yesterday and has guided the players on their roles,” he explained.

“We recognize that Mohun Bagan are serious title contenders. They are at a point where winning every match is crucial. While I can’t predict the outcome, I assure you our team will battle for the full 90 minutes.”

Alfred Planas Moya leads Inter Kashi's scoring with four goals, while Sandip Mandi has been effective in providing assists. Midfielders Sergio Llamas and Mohammed Asif have also been significant contributors, with Nishu Kumar and Sumeet Passi bringing experience to the defense. Goalkeeper Shubham Dhas will be responsible for organizing the backline.

Sumeet Passi commented on the upcoming match, stating, “As everyone knows, Mohun Bagan are title contenders. Facing them, along with teams like East Bengal or Kerala Blasters, creates pressure for both sides. We will adhere to our strategy and strive to put up a strong fight.”
