Mitchell Starc's Influence on Delhi Capitals: Ian Bell's Insights
Starc's Impact on the Team
In Dharamshala, Delhi Capitals' Assistant Coach Ian Bell expressed admiration for Mitchell Starc, emphasizing the significant experience and skill he contributes to the team. Bell noted that Starc's presence is crucial, given his proven track record in high-stakes matches.
While Bell wished Starc could have joined the squad earlier in the season, he acknowledged that injuries had delayed his participation. He highlighted Starc's role extends beyond just bowling; his mentorship for younger players is invaluable.
Starc, who made his IPL 2026 debut against Rajasthan Royals on May 1 after recovering from injury, trains with remarkable intensity, setting a high standard for both bowlers and batsmen during practice sessions.
Speaking to reporters before the upcoming match against Punjab Kings at the HPCA Cricket Stadium, Bell remarked, "Having him around is fantastic. We all recognize his talent, especially after witnessing his performance in the Ashes. Although we would have preferred him from the start, injuries are part of the game. I believe he will thrive in these conditions. It's unfortunate that we haven't provided him with enough runs in recent matches to make a significant impact with the ball."
KL Rahul's Leadership and Team Consistency
Bell also commended KL Rahul for his leadership and dedication, noting that despite being an established player, he continuously seeks improvement. He praised Rahul's game understanding, work ethic, and his role as a key player in the squad.
However, Bell pointed out the need for greater batting consistency within the team. He mentioned that while Delhi Capitals have achieved impressive scores, they have also faced severe collapses, which are unsustainable at this level.
He stated, "With KL, like any top player, the pursuit of improvement is constant, regardless of career stage. This mindset is crucial. The best players always look for ways to enhance their game. KL's approach to training and his strategic thinking have been a joy to witness, and he has led our batting efforts exceptionally well."
Bell concluded by expressing the need for more consistent performances from other players, highlighting the team's erratic scoring patterns, which have seen them post 260 runs in one match and then get bowled out for just 70 in another. He emphasized that such inconsistencies cannot be tolerated at this level.
Currently, KL Rahul is having an outstanding season in IPL 2026, ranking third in the Orange Cap standings with 468 runs from 11 innings, boasting an average of 46.80 and a strike rate of 180.00.
