Marsh's Stellar Performance Secures Win for LSG

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India] - Mitchell Marsh praised his team's unified effort after scoring a remarkable 90 runs, guiding the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a seven-wicket triumph against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during their IPL 2026 match on Saturday evening.

Marsh, who earned the Player of the Match title, expressed that this victory was crucial for the team amidst a challenging season.

“It’s great to finally secure a win; they’ve been rare for us this season. We’ve remained united as a team, and it’s rewarding to see that pay off tonight,” Marsh stated during the post-match interview.

He also emphasized the positive atmosphere within the squad, particularly highlighting the contributions from younger players.

“We have fantastic individuals in this group, including some talented youngsters,” he added.

The Australian all-rounder discussed his opening partnership with fellow countryman Josh Inglis, noting that their synergy helped alleviate pressure during the innings.

“He really helps take the pressure off me. We’ve grown up playing together in Western Australia, so we understand each other well, and tonight’s partnership was solid,” Marsh remarked.

Regarding the pitch conditions, Marsh noted that while the initial overs were tough, it became easier once the batters settled in.

“The first couple of overs can be quite challenging, and at the start of the tournament, we found ourselves losing wickets early. However, it’s a good pitch once you get going. It somewhat reminds me of Perth Stadium,” he explained.

On his dismissal, he humorously commented, “Cricket is a funny game, isn’t it?”

Marsh also mentioned his increased involvement in the field this season, expressing enjoyment in contributing more, especially in light of Inglis’ injury.

“I had a bit of bad luck this summer. Inglis injured his finger recently, so he’s rightfully taken on more responsibility, and I enjoy being out there with the team – it’s always a good time,” he said.

Meanwhile, LSG captain Rishabh Pant highlighted the team's collective effort and clarity in roles as key factors in their victory over CSK.

During the post-match presentation, Pant stated that the win was significant for the team's morale and showcased their commitment despite a tough season.

“It feels great to win. Achieving this victory is important for us. We take pride in having a lot to play for, regardless of how the season unfolds,” Pant noted.

He also commended pacer Akash Singh for his disciplined performance and consistent execution of plans.

“He has been putting in a lot of effort. Sometimes it’s tough to give everyone a chance, but he’s one player who consistently sticks to the plan, and it paid off tonight,” Pant added.

Pant elaborated on the tactical decision to promote Josh Inglis and another overseas player up the batting order, with Nicholas Pooran batting at number three, showcasing the team’s adaptable strategy.

“The initial thought was to have two overseas players open, with Nicky (Pooran) batting at three. With four fast bowlers, this strategy has been effective for us,” he explained.

He stressed the importance of simplicity in a high-pressure environment.

“We have an amazing team. The only thing that can hinder us is overthinking,” Pant remarked.

Reflecting on his own role, Pant mentioned that while he was prepared to bat, he respected the team’s strategy.

“I was ready to bat tonight, but the idea was to give opportunities to players who haven’t played much. I still wanted to be out there, but sometimes you have to respect the decisions made,” he said.

LSG successfully chased down the target of 188 runs with 20 balls remaining, driven by Marsh’s explosive 90 runs off 38 balls. He formed a formidable 135-run opening partnership with Josh Inglis, who contributed a brisk 36 runs. Nicholas Pooran finished the match unbeaten on 32 runs off 17 balls.

Earlier, CSK set a target of 187/5, bolstered by Kartik Sharma’s 71 runs and a late surge from Shivam Dube, after recovering from early setbacks caused by LSG pacer Akash Singh, who claimed three wickets. Despite CSK’s brief resistance in the middle overs, LSG’s aggressive start ensured a comfortable chase, leading to a decisive victory at home.
