Lungi Ngidi of Delhi Capitals Recovering After Head Injury in IPL Match
Lungi Ngidi's Condition Update
New Delhi [India] - April 25: Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi from the Delhi Capitals is reported to be in stable condition and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon after suffering a head injury during the IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, according to a statement from the IPL.
Ngidi was taken off the field on a stretcher and transported to the hospital after he fell while attempting to catch a ball.
In a recent update shared on X, the IPL confirmed that the South African bowler is stable and will be released from the hospital shortly.
“Update: Lungisani Ngidi of Delhi Capitals hit his head on the ground while trying to catch a ball during the match against Punjab Kings. He was taken to the hospital after reporting a headache and neck pain. Ngidi is stable and is expected to be discharged soon. Vipraj Nigam is on the field as a concussion substitute,” the IPL's post on X stated.
During the third over of Punjab Kings' innings, bowled by Axar Patel, Ngidi attempted to catch a lofted shot from Priyansh Arya. While tracking the ball, he lost control and fell heavily on his head, creating a tense moment on the field.
The Delhi Capitals team showed visible concern as a stretcher was brought in for Ngidi. Medical staff attended to him while he lay on the ground, and an ambulance was called. Even opposition coach Ricky Ponting came out to check on Ngidi's condition.
Ngidi was eventually transported to Max Hospital, located on Pusa Road in Karol Bagh, for further evaluation and treatment.
