Lucknow Super Giants Face Another Heartbreaking Loss in IPL 2026
Lucknow's Struggles Continue
In a thrilling Super Over showdown at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday night, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fell short against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), marking their eighth consecutive defeat at home in IPL 2026.
This unfortunate streak ties them with the Deccan Chargers for the second-most home losses in IPL history, while the Delhi Capitals hold the record with nine straight losses at the Arun Jaitley Stadium from 2013 to 2015.
The defeat also signifies LSG's fifth consecutive loss, establishing a new record for the franchise in the IPL. Currently, they sit at the bottom of the points table, having secured only two victories out of eight matches.
Close Call in the Super Over
Led by Rishabh Pant, LSG came tantalizingly close to clinching their third win of the season but faltered during the Super Over. Nicholas Pooran, struggling with form, was sent in to bat alongside Aiden Markram. Unfortunately, Pooran was dismissed on the very first ball by Sunil Narine. Pant managed a single on the next delivery, but Markram was caught out while attempting a boundary, leaving a target of just two runs for KKR, which they achieved on the first ball of Prince Yadav's over, thanks to Rinku Singh's boundary that earned him the Player of the Match title.
Chasing Woes for LSG
This loss marks LSG's 18th defeat in 30 matches while chasing a target in the IPL, resulting in a win percentage of 40 when batting second. Conversely, their performance improves significantly when batting first, boasting a win percentage of 57.14, with 20 victories out of 36 matches in that scenario.
Rinku Singh's Stellar Performance
Earlier in the match, Rinku Singh played a pivotal role in helping KKR set a competitive total of 155 runs after being asked to bat first. Mohsin Khan's impressive five-wicket haul kept KKR's scoring in check during the middle overs. Rinku's remarkable innings of 83 runs off 51 balls, featuring seven fours and five sixes, propelled his team past the 150-run mark.
In addition to his batting prowess, Rinku showcased his fielding skills by taking four catches, becoming only the fourth player in IPL history to achieve the feat of scoring over 50 runs and taking four catches in a single match. Previous players to accomplish this include Jacques Kallis, Riyan Parag, and Daryl Mitchell.
This was Rinku Singh's second instance of taking four catches for KKR, a feat only achieved three times by KKR players in IPL history.
