LSG's Batting Brilliance at Wankhede

In a thrilling encounter at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) showcased their batting prowess, amassing an impressive total of 228 runs for the loss of 5 wickets against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2026.

Nicholas Pooran was the star of the show, smashing a remarkable 63 runs off just 21 balls, which included a staggering 8 sixes. Himmat Singh and Aiden Markram also contributed significantly, with Singh scoring 40 runs off 31 deliveries.

Despite a late resurgence from MI, who managed to restrict LSG to only 22 runs in the final three overs, the damage had already been done.

After being invited to bat first, LSG got off to a flying start, even after losing Josh Inglis early in the innings. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran quickly took charge during the powerplay, forming a formidable partnership that propelled LSG to 90 runs for the loss of 1 wicket within just 6 overs.

Pooran's explosive batting was complemented by Marsh's steady approach, as they both targeted the MI bowlers relentlessly. The duo's aggressive play put immense pressure on MI's bowling attack, which struggled to contain the runs on a pitch that favored the batters.

In the seventh over, Pooran reached his fifty in a mere 16 balls, marking his first of the season. However, Corbin Bosch turned the tide for MI by breaking the 94-run partnership, dismissing Pooran shortly after. Bosch also claimed the wicket of Marsh, who scored 44, in the same over.

The partnership between Pooran and Marsh became the second-highest for LSG against MI, only behind the 109-run stand between KL Rahul and Pooran at the same venue in 2024.

Rishabh Pant's struggles continued as he was dismissed for just 15 runs by Will Jacks, leading to Akshat Raghuwanshi's arrival at the crease. Raghuwanshi made an immediate impact with a six off his first ball but was dismissed for 11 runs shortly after.

Himmat Singh and Aiden Markram then took charge, forming a solid partnership that added 68 runs for the fifth wicket in just 47 balls, ultimately guiding LSG to their formidable total of 228/5.

For MI, Corbin Bosch was the standout bowler with two wickets, while Raghu Sharma, Will Jacks, and AM Ghazanfar each claimed one wicket.
