Kolkata Knight Riders Secure Victory
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 16: A stellar performance from Finn Allen, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Cameron Green with the bat, along with Sunil Narine's bowling prowess, propelled Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a 29-run win against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2026 on Saturday.
Allen's explosive 93 runs off 35 balls, Raghuvanshi's solid 82 runs from 44 deliveries, and Green's unbeaten 52 off 28 balls, complemented by Narine's bowling figures of 2/29 in 4 overs, were pivotal in KKR's success over GT.
With a fierce start from Allen and consistent contributions from Raghuvanshi and Green, KKR set a daunting target of 247/2, while they managed to restrict Gujarat to 218/4, keeping their playoff aspirations alive.
In pursuit of 248 runs, Gujarat Titans began their innings aggressively but faced an early blow. Opener Sai Sudharsan, who scored 23 runs off 13 balls, had to retire hurt after being struck on the elbow by a delivery from Kartik Tyagi (0/59 in 4 overs) in the third over. Despite this setback, GT reached 42/0 after three overs.
The introduction of Sunil Narine (2/29 in 4 overs) in the fifth over proved crucial, as he dismissed Nishant Sindhu for just 1 run, leaving GT at 51/1 by the end of the powerplay.
With the required run rate soaring past 14 runs per over, captain Shubman Gill (85 runs off 49 balls) and Jos Buttler (57 runs off 35 balls) took charge, reviving the chase with an aggressive partnership, including two sixes from Gill off Narine in the seventh over.
Gill continued his onslaught in the ninth over, hitting Anukul Roy (0/17 in 1 over) for two sixes and a four, bringing GT to 92/1 after nine overs. He reached his half-century in just 33 balls, with Gujarat advancing to 111/1 after 11 overs.
Gill then targeted Varun Chakaravarthy (0/47 in 4 overs), scoring two sixes and two fours in a 22-run 14th over. Buttler also reached his fifty off 32 balls as GT climbed to 177/1 after 16 overs.
Narine returned to claim a vital wicket, dismissing Gill for a brilliant 85 runs, which included five fours and seven sixes.
Sudharsan (53* runs off 28 balls) returned to the crease and reignited hopes for GT, hitting a six and two boundaries off Tyagi in the 18th over, helping GT surpass the 200-run mark at 203/2.
However, needing 45 runs from the last two overs, Saurabh Dubey (1/23 in 2.4 overs) and Cameron Green (1/25 in 3 overs) held their composure for KKR. Dubey dismissed Buttler in the penultimate over, while Green took out Rahul Tewatia on the final ball, securing a 29-run victory for KKR, with Sudharsan remaining not out on 53 runs off 28 balls.
In terms of bowling, KKR's Sunil Narine excelled with figures of 2/29 in 4 overs, while Green and Dubey also contributed with a wicket each.
This victory elevates Kolkata Knight Riders to seventh place in the IPL 2026 standings, with five wins from 12 matches, while Gujarat Titans remain second, having achieved eight wins and five losses in 13 games.
Earlier in the match, aggressive half-centuries from Finn Allen and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, along with a fifty from Cameron Green, enabled KKR to amass a formidable total of 247/2.
Allen spearheaded the innings with a blistering 93 off just 35 balls, while Raghuvanshi provided solid support with a fluent 82 off 44 deliveries.
Green added a late flourish with an unbeaten 52 off 28 balls, propelling Kolkata Knight Riders to their impressive total.
After being asked to bat first, KKR opened with Ajinkya Rahane and Finn Allen. Mohammed Siraj bowled a disciplined first over, conceding only five runs, followed by Kagiso Rabada, who allowed just eight runs.
However, Finn Allen broke the early pressure in the next over, hitting back-to-back boundaries off Siraj and collecting 12 runs in the third over.
He also targeted Rabada in the fourth over, smashing two massive sixes. Siraj struck in the following over, dismissing KKR skipper Rahane for 14, bringing Angkrish Raghuvanshi to the crease.
With this wicket, Mohammed Siraj achieved a milestone of 200 wickets in T20 cricket, becoming the 21st Indian bowler and the 11th fast bowler to reach this landmark.
After Rahane's dismissal, Allen and Raghuvanshi formed a formidable second-wicket partnership, attacking the Gujarat Titans' bowlers effectively.
At the halfway point, after 10 overs, KKR stood at 116 for 1, with Allen unbeaten on 71 and Raghuvanshi on 27. The duo added 95 runs off 41 balls before Sai Kishore provided GT with a crucial breakthrough, dismissing Allen for 93 off 35 balls, bringing Cameron Green to the crease.
Allen's 93 runs mark the highest individual score for KKR against GT in IPL history. The partnership of Green and Raghuvanshi then propelled the home side past the 200-run mark in 17 overs.
Raghuvanshi continued his impressive form, achieving his fifth fifty of the IPL 2026 season.
He now holds the record for the second-most 50-plus scores in a single IPL season for Kolkata Knight Riders, joining an elite group led by Gautam Gambhir with six such scores, while he is now tied with Robin Uthappa at five.
Raghuvanshi took on veteran seamer Siraj in the 19th over, smashing him for 25 runs.
Raghuvanshi has emerged as a standout young talent in the IPL 2026 season, recording five 50-plus scores at just 21 years of age.
This achievement places him among an elite group of young batters, trailing only Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who both have six such scores in a season at the same age. He is also tied with Devdutt Padikkal, who also achieved five 50+ scores in an IPL season at 21.
Green and Raghuvanshi finished the innings with 12 runs off the final over, leading Kolkata Knight Riders to a commanding total of 247 for 2.
