Gujarat Titans Triumph with Holder's Stellar Performance
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], May 4: In a thrilling encounter during the IPL 2026, Gujarat Titans (GT) all-rounder Jason Holder acknowledged the significant contributions of bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada, which facilitated a four-wicket victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday.
Holder was awarded the Player of the Match (POTM) for his impressive bowling figures of 4 wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs. He dismissed PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, Nehal Wadhera, Marcus Stoinis, and Xavier Bartlett. Both Rabada and Siraj also played crucial roles, taking two wickets each in the early stages of the match, easing the pressure on Holder later on.
Siraj made an immediate impact by claiming the wickets of Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly in the very first over, while Rabada dismissed Prabhsimran Singh in the sixth over. Their efforts were instrumental in restricting PBKS to a total of 163 runs for 9 wickets, despite a solid partnership of 79 runs between Suryansh Shedge (57 off 29) and Marcus Stoinis (40 off 31).
In response, GT faced early challenges but found stability through Sai Sudharsan, who scored 57 runs off 41 balls. Washington Sundar then sealed the victory with a six in the final over, finishing with 40 runs off 23 balls.
This win propelled GT to sixth place in the standings with 12 points, while PBKS remained at the top with 13 points.
Post-match, Jason Holder commended the bowling performances of Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada, noting that their efforts significantly eased his responsibilities during the middle overs. He emphasized the importance of executing plans and maintaining pressure on the batting side.
“I have to give credit to both Siraj and KG (Kagiso Rabada). Their performances have been exceptional, making my job easier in the middle. However, it’s crucial to execute our plans and keep the pressure on the opposition,” Holder stated during the post-match presentation.
At 34, Holder mentioned that his focus on T20 cricket over the past year and a half has kept him prepared for various match situations, although he still aspires to play Test cricket. He aims to remain mentally sharp, positive, and impactful whenever he gets the opportunity.
“In the last year and a half, I’ve primarily played T20 cricket. While I would love to participate in Test matches, focusing on T20 has ensured I’m ready for any situation. My goal is to execute effectively when needed, maintain a fresh mindset, and make a significant impact under pressure,” he concluded.
