Mustafizur Rahman's Departure from KKR

Arun Singh Dhumal, the Chairman of the IPL, has described the removal of Bangladesh's fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders as a regrettable situation. This decision comes in light of the ongoing turmoil in Bangladesh, which has led to the country's withdrawal from the T20 World Cup scheduled in India. Mustafizur was acquired by KKR after a competitive bidding war with Chennai Super Kings, securing a deal worth INR 9.20 crores during the IPL 2026 mini auction.

Dhumal commented on the situation in an interview with the Financial Times, stating, “It is unfortunate, and I do not have much insight beyond that.” He emphasized that while the unfolding events are regrettable, he believes the government does not interfere in the daily operations of cricket, although it supports the sport overall. He expressed hope that rationality would prevail in future decisions.

In the previous season, Rahman played for the Delhi Capitals as a replacement but struggled to make an impact. Over his IPL career, the 30-year-old has participated in 60 matches, taking 65 wickets while playing for various franchises, including Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Delhi Capitals.
