IPL 2027 Mini-Auction Deadline Extended: Key Updates and Player Trades
IPL 2027 Mini-Auction Deadline Extended
The deadline for all ten franchises to finalize their retention and release lists for the IPL 2027 mini-auction has been pushed back by two days to November 17. The auction is set to occur in Goa on December 16.
Originally, the deadline was scheduled for November 15, coinciding with the fifth One-Day International (ODI) match between India and New Zealand, as reported by a sports news outlet.
Once the franchises submit their lists, the IPL will provide them with the pool of registered players. Teams will then create a shortlist before the final auction list and the order of sets are distributed in the week leading up to the auction.
Two player trades have already been executed ahead of the auction.
In a notable transaction, Delhi Capitals have reacquired their former captain Rishabh Pant from Lucknow Super Giants, while left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has moved to Lucknow.
Additionally, Delhi Capitals traded fast bowler T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad in exchange for leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari.
As for the IPL 2027 season dates, they have yet to be confirmed. However, during the announcement of the schedule window for the 2025, 2026, and 2027 seasons in 2024, the IPL indicated that the 2027 season would run from March 14 to May 30.
In September, following the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Annual General Meeting (AGM), board secretary Devajit Saikia suggested that the tournament might commence around the end of March.
This upcoming auction will be the last mini-auction in the current IPL cycle, with a mega auction planned for the 2028 season.
The next mega auction will also initiate the IPL's new media rights cycle. However, the BCCI has yet to issue the tender for the upcoming rights cycle.
In 2022, the IPL's media rights were sold for an impressive Rs 48,390.5 crore (approximately USD 6.2 billion), solidifying the tournament's status as one of the most valuable sporting events worldwide.
