IPL Auction 2027 Set for India

The upcoming IPL players' auction for the 2027 season is scheduled to take place in India. League chairman Arun Dhumal expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the event domestically after three consecutive years of overseas auctions.

The previous three auctions were conducted in locations such as Dubai, Jeddah (for the mega auction), and Abu Dhabi.

Dhumal mentioned, "We strive to hold the auction in India each year, but the heavy wedding season often complicates venue availability. This year, we are optimistic about securing a location since it will be a smaller auction." He is also expected to be re-elected as IPL chairman during the BCCI AGM on September 18.

The specific city for the auction will be determined based on the availability of the BCCI's preferred venue.

During a recent Governing Council meeting, the controversial Impact Player rule was a topic of discussion, as the BCCI sought fresh input from teams regarding this regulation, which is set to remain in effect until 2027.

Notable players, including India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill, former captain Rohit Sharma, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel, have voiced their concerns about the Impact Player rule, arguing that it undermines the significance of all-rounders.

Ahead of IPL 2026, many captains expressed their objections to the BCCI, leading to renewed calls for the rule's elimination. Dhumal indicated that the BCCI is willing to reconsider the Impact Player concept.

"We are currently discussing the matter and will gather feedback from all stakeholders before making a decision," Dhumal stated.

This strategic rule permits teams to make substitutions at any point during the match.

In addition to Dhumal, Khairul Majumdar is also set to be re-elected to the IPL Governing Council during this week's AGM.
