Klaasen Breaks IPL Record for Runs at Number Four or Lower

In a remarkable display of batting, Heinrich Klaasen of Sunrisers Hyderabad has etched his name in the IPL record books by surpassing Rishabh Pant's previous record for the most runs scored by a player batting at number four or lower in a single season. Klaasen, aged 34, has accumulated a total of 606 runs this season, making him the first player to exceed the 600-run milestone in this category.

Previously, Pant held the record with 579 runs for the Delhi Capitals in 2018. Following Klaasen on the list is Riyan Parag, who scored 573 runs for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2024 season, while Rohit Sharma ranks fourth with 538 runs for Mumbai Indians in 2013. Glenn Maxwell rounds out the top five with 513 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021.

Additionally, Klaasen has become the fifth player in SRH history to reach 2000 runs for the franchise. David Warner leads the pack with 4014 runs, followed by Shikhar Dhawan with 2678 runs, Abhishek Sharma with 2316 runs, and Kane Williamson with 2101 runs. Klaasen's current tally stands at 2020 runs for SRH.

In their final league match, SRH batted first and set a formidable target of 255/4, thanks to significant contributions from Abhishek Sharma (56 runs off 22 balls), Klaasen (51 runs off 24 balls), and Ishan Kishan (79 runs off 46 balls).

Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy also played crucial roles in building the team's total. For RCB, Rasikh Salam Dar claimed two wickets, while Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya each took one wicket.

Currently, RCB leads the points table with 18 points, while SRH sits in third place with 16 points. As this match marks the end of the league stage for both teams, SRH aims for a significant victory to surpass Gujarat Titans and secure a second-place finish based on net run rate, with GT also holding 18 points.
