Amdavad Experience Centre Inaugurated in Glasgow

Glasgow [Scotland], July 30: Harsh Sanghavi, the Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, emphasized the significance of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will take place in Ahmedabad, calling it "a collective aspiration of the state and its youth." This statement was made during the opening of the 'Amdavad Experience Centre' in Glasgow, which has already garnered significant interest from the global sports community.

The Experience Centre, established alongside the ongoing Commonwealth Games, aims to highlight Ahmedabad's sports facilities, cultural richness, and the city's preparations for the centenary edition of the Games in 2030.

After the inauguration, Sanghavi shared with the media, "Today marks the launch of the Amdavad Experience Centre. Since yesterday morning, we have seen over 5,000 registrations, with numerous athletes and representatives from international federations visiting until August 2. This initiative transcends mere bidding; it embodies our dream, a dream shared by the youth of our state. I extend my gratitude to PM Modi for his vision that has propelled the development of vital sports infrastructure in Gujarat."

Sanghavi noted that the centre will continue to welcome representatives from global sports federations and athletes throughout the Glasgow Games, allowing them to immerse themselves in Ahmedabad's sports culture and identity ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

During the launch event, the Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister participated in a Garba dance alongside Scottish officials and members of the Commonwealth Games movement, showcasing the cultural heritage of Gujarat to an international audience.

In addition to the inauguration, Sanghavi met with officials from the British Council to explore opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing in education and culture, as Gujarat intensifies its preparations for the Commonwealth Games.

This visit is part of a larger initiative by Gujarat to enhance its international relations with global sports organizations and to promote Ahmedabad's readiness to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030.

The inauguration coincided with a successful phase for India at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. By the end of Day 7, India had secured 15 medals—three gold, nine silver, and three bronze—with six Indian boxers reaching the semifinals in their respective categories.

Notable Indian medallists include Mirabai Chanu (gold in weightlifting), Sharmila Dhankar (gold in women's shot put F57), and Dilip Mahadu Gavit (gold in men's T47 100m), among others.
