Gujarat Titans Triumph Over Rajasthan Royals in IPL Qualifier Two
Gujarat Titans Secure Victory in IPL Qualifier Two
Mullanpur (Punjab) [India] - On May 29, Gujarat Titans (GT) clinched a thrilling victory against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL Qualifier Two, thanks to a remarkable century from captain Shubman Gill and a solid partnership with Sai Sudharsan.
This win propels the Titans into the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Ahmedabad on Sunday. After winning the toss, RR opted to bat first, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivering an impressive performance, scoring 96 runs off 47 balls, supported by Donovan Ferreira's quickfire 38 runs off just 11 balls, leading RR to a total of 214/6 in their 20 overs.
In response, GT's chase was anchored by Shubman Gill, who scored 104 runs off 53 balls, and his partnership with Sudharsan, who contributed 58 runs off 32 balls, set the stage for a successful run chase, finishing at 219/3 in 18.4 overs.
The chase began with a strong start as Gill and Sudharsan quickly accumulated runs, reaching 50 runs in just four overs. By the end of the powerplay, GT was at 69/0, with Sudharsan on 30 and Gill on 29.
Gill's explosive batting continued as he reached his half-century in 31 balls, and the Titans crossed the 100-run mark in 8.5 overs. The duo's partnership of 167 runs came to an end when Sudharsan was dismissed for 58, but Gill continued to dominate, achieving his fifth IPL century.
Despite losing Gill and Washington Sundar later in the innings, GT successfully chased down the target with Jos Butler and Rahul Tewatia remaining not out.
Earlier, RR's innings started poorly, losing two quick wickets, but Sooryavanshi's counter-attack shifted the momentum, allowing them to recover to a competitive total. His innings included eight fours and seven sixes, showcasing his talent at just 15 years old.
GT's bowlers, particularly Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder, were effective, taking crucial wickets to keep RR in check. Ultimately, RR's late surge, led by Ferreira, helped them reach a challenging score, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.
Final Scores: RR - 214/6 in 20 overs (Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 96, Ravindra Jadeja 45; Kagiso Rabada 2/35) lost to GT - 219/3 in 18.4 overs (Shubman Gill 104, Sai Sudharsan 58; Nandre Burger 1/35).
