Gujarat Titans Dominate Chennai Super Kings with an 89-Run Victory in IPL Clash
Gujarat Titans Showcase Bowling Prowess
In a thrilling IPL encounter on Thursday night in Ahmedabad, the Gujarat Titans (GT) delivered a stunning bowling performance, overpowering the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 89 runs.
Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Rashid Khan each took three wickets, restricting CSK to a mere 140 runs while chasing a target of 230.
Chennai's Struggles with the Bat
CSK began their innings with Sanju Samson and Matthew Short, but Siraj made an immediate impact, dismissing Samson for a golden duck on the first ball.
In his next over, Siraj claimed the wicket of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for 16 and Urvil Patel for a duck, leaving Kartik Sharma to stabilize the innings.
Short and Sharma attempted to counterattack, but Rabada struck in the final over of the powerplay, sending Short back for 24 and bringing Dewald Brevis to the crease.
Sharma, who was looking good, was run out for 19, allowing Shivam Dube to come in.
Dube launched a fierce assault, scoring 47 off just 17 balls, but Rashid Khan dismissed him in his first over, shifting the momentum back to GT.
Following Dube's wicket, CSK collapsed dramatically, losing their last wickets within three overs, with Rashid Khan and Rabada wrapping up the innings.
Gujarat Titans' Batting Brilliance
Earlier, GT set a formidable total of 229/4, thanks to a century partnership between skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, along with a solid half-century from Jos Buttler.
After being put to bat first, Gill and Sudharsan provided a strong start, hitting boundaries against the CSK bowlers, including three fours off Spencer Johnson in the fourth over.
Sudharsan's four straight hits down the ground helped GT reach 50 runs in just over five overs.
Gill reached a milestone of 6,000 runs in T20 cricket, finishing the over with a six and putting GT at 78 runs after seven overs. He completed his half-century in just 23 balls, hitting five fours and three sixes.
Sudharsan joined in the fun, hitting a six and a four in the ninth over, helping GT cross the 100-run mark in 9.1 overs and achieving a century partnership for the seventh time this season.
At the halfway mark, GT was at 111/0, with Gill (62*) and Sudharsan (43*) still at the crease. Sudharsan also reached his half-century, marking his fifth consecutive fifty-plus score of the season.
The partnership of 125 runs was finally broken when Spencer dismissed Gill for 64 runs off 37 balls, caught brilliantly by Shivam Dube.
In the 14th over, Sudharsan and Buttler continued to score freely, bringing GT's total to 150 runs.
Sudharsan's innings ended at 84 runs off 53 balls, and Buttler finished with an impressive 57 runs off 27 balls, leading GT to a total of 229/4.
Mukesh Choudhary, Spencer, and Kamboj each took a wicket for CSK.
