Gujarat Titans Achieve Record IPL Victory Over Sunrisers Hyderabad
Gujarat Titans' Historic Win
In a remarkable display of cricket, the Gujarat Titans (GT) secured their largest victory in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a staggering 82 runs in Ahmedabad on May 13.
While defending a target of 169 runs, GT's bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj delivered an impressive performance during the powerplay, leading to SRH's collapse at just 86 runs in 14.5 overs, with none of their batsmen managing to score 20 runs.
This victory surpassed GT's previous record set just two days earlier when they triumphed over the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 77 runs, dismissing them for 152 while chasing a target of 230.
For SRH, this match marked their largest defeat in terms of runs, eclipsing their previous 80-run loss to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) last season, where they were bowled out for 120 runs while chasing 201.
Notably, this is the first instance since 2024 that SRH has failed to chase a target under 200 runs in the IPL. Their total of 86 runs is now the lowest all-out score in their IPL history, falling short of the 96 runs they scored against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2019.
GT's successful defense of 168 runs is also the second-lowest total defended in IPL 2026, following the 159 runs defended by RR against LSG in Lucknow. This victory marks GT's sixth win against SRH in their last seven encounters, including four victories at their home ground in Ahmedabad.
During the toss, SRH chose to bowl first, and GT found themselves at 26/2 early on. However, Sai Sudharsan (61 off 44 balls, including five fours and two sixes) stabilized the innings alongside Nishant Sindhu (22 off 14 balls) and later partnered with Washington Sundar (50 off 33 balls) to build crucial stands of 38 and 60 runs, respectively. GT finished their innings at 168/5.
For SRH, Praful Hinge (2/17 in three overs) and Sakib Hussain (2/37 in four overs) were standout bowlers, while skipper Pat Cummins also contributed with figures of 1/20 in four overs.
In the chase, Mohammed Siraj (1/11 in three overs) set the tone by dismissing Travis Head for a duck. Kagiso Rabada (3/28 in four overs) dismantled SRH's top order, leaving them at 32/4 within 5.5 overs.
Jason Holder (3/20 in four overs) and Prasidh Krishna (2/23 in three overs) completed the rout, with SRH's captain Cummins being the top scorer with 19 runs.
Rabada was named 'Player of the Match' for his outstanding performance during the powerplay.
With this victory, GT remains at the top of the table with eight wins and four losses, totaling 16 points, while SRH drops to third place with seven wins and five losses, accumulating 14 points.
