Exciting Launch of Sher-e-Punjab T20 League Set to Elevate Punjab Cricket
Inauguration of Sher-e-Punjab T20 League
The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League was officially inaugurated at the PCA International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Sunday, heralding a thrilling new era for cricket in Punjab.
Scheduled to take place from August 30 to September 13, the tournament will showcase prominent players from the region, including Indian captain Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Gurnoor Brar, Prabhsimran Singh, and Ramandeep Singh, as stated in a press release from the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA).
The launch event was attended by PCA Secretary Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and President Amarjeet Singh Mehta, alongside Indian cricket stars Shubman Gill and Arshdeep Singh.
Six teams will compete in a total of 27 electrifying matches for the championship title, utilizing a round-robin format. Each team will feature one marquee player and at least two iconic players, ensuring a mix of international talent, domestic stars, and emerging players from Punjab.
During the launch ceremony, the official logo of the tournament was unveiled, further heightening anticipation for the inaugural season.
Shubman Gill expressed, “The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League serves as an excellent platform for young cricketers to demonstrate their skills and aspire to represent Punjab and India. Punjab has a rich history of producing exceptional cricketers, and I am confident this league will uncover many more talents. I commend the Punjab Cricket Association for this remarkable initiative and wish the league immense success.”
Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Secretary of the PCA, remarked, “Punjab has consistently been a powerhouse in Indian cricket, producing legends from Lala Amarnath to Yuvraj Singh, and now stars like Shubman Gill and Arshdeep Singh. The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is poised to become one of the leading domestic T20 competitions in the country.”
He added that this league is a visionary project initiated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, aimed at providing a professional platform for budding cricketers in Punjab to showcase their abilities and progress in their careers.
“This league will allow young talents to compete alongside international stars and take significant strides in their careers. We appreciate the support from all players, the PCA, and everyone involved in this initiative. We are optimistic about the league's success,” concluded Meet Hayer.

During the event, PCA officials, including Secretary Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, President Amarjeet Mehta, Vice President Deepak Bali, Treasurer Sunil Gupta, and Joint Secretary Sidhant Sharma, honored the franchise owners and players.
The auction for the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is set for August 9, where the six franchises representing Amritsar, Fazilka, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mohali, and Bathinda will finalize their teams ahead of the inaugural season.
Each franchise will operate with a salary cap of INR 45 lakh. The price for a marquee player is set at INR 10 lakh, while the base price for an icon player is INR 1.50 lakh. The base prices for Punjab First-Class players are INR 1 lakh, U-23 players at INR 75,000, U-19 players at INR 50,000, and district players at INR 20,000. Each franchise can have a maximum of 20 players in their squad.
