Dinesh Karthik Lauds Virat Kohli's Consistency Ahead of IPL Clash
Karthik Commends Kohli's Evolution in T20 Cricket
New Delhi [India] - Ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Delhi Capitals, Dinesh Karthik, the batting coach and mentor for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), expressed his admiration for the iconic Virat Kohli.
Karthik acknowledged Kohli's remarkable ability to regain his form year after year, adapting seamlessly to the fast-paced nature of T20 cricket.
Throughout his IPL career, Kohli has only failed to surpass the 400-run mark in a season on two occasions: in 2017 and 2022. This season, he has already amassed 328 runs in just seven innings, boasting an impressive average of 54.66 and a strike rate of 163.18.
During a pre-match press conference, Karthik highlighted Kohli's talent for continually reinventing himself, allowing him to remain competitive in the evolving landscape of T20 cricket. He noted that despite the increasing pace of the game and the emergence of players with exceptionally high strike rates, Kohli consistently adapts and delivers outstanding performances, showcasing his long-term consistency and evolution.
“It’s commendable how he rediscovers his game every year. To keep pace with the rapid evolution of the sport, especially with newer players achieving incredible strike rates, and still produce match-winning performances is truly impressive,” Karthik remarked.
Karthik elaborated on Kohli's methodical approach, emphasizing his habit of reviewing his performances and establishing a clear improvement strategy each season. He praised Kohli's discipline and commitment to his training regimen, where he continuously assesses and refines his skills.
“Every year, he evaluates his past performances and comes up with a determined plan for improvement. His dedication extends beyond match days to his practice sessions, where he meticulously checks his progress,” Karthik explained.
Karthik also pointed out that younger players benefit greatly from observing Kohli during training, as it provides them with invaluable insights, even if they aren't actively playing. He stressed that Kohli's serious demeanor, structured training methods, and clear objectives make him an exemplary figure for aspiring cricketers.
“There are days when he practices more intensely and others when he takes it easier. His wealth of experience is a tremendous learning opportunity for any young player. Watching someone like Virat Kohli train is a privilege, and it offers significant lessons, even without actual game time,” Karthik concluded.
As the defending champions, RCB currently holds the second position on the points table with 10 points, aiming to solidify their standing as the tournament progresses.
