Delhi Capitals Win Toss and Choose to Bat

New Delhi [India] - On May 5, the Delhi Capitals (DC) won the toss and decided to bat first in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

After the toss, DC's captain Axar Patel expressed his decision to bat first, anticipating that the pitch would become slower in the latter half of the match, which could benefit the bowlers.

He emphasized the need to concentrate on fundamental skills rather than the points table to mitigate unnecessary pressure. Axar noted that while the team has performed well in batting and bowling, there is room for improvement in their fielding. He also announced a change in the playing XI, with Lungi Ngidi taking the place of Kyle Jamieson.

“We will bat first. The surface looks promising, but it might slow down later, so we want to give our bowlers an edge. This match is crucial, but focusing on points can lead to added stress. We need to stick to the basics and not dwell on the outcomes. Overall, our batting and bowling have been solid, but we need to enhance our fielding. One change – Lungi Ngidi replaces Kyle Jamieson,” Axar stated during the toss.

So far in the IPL 2026 season, DC has had a mixed performance, securing four wins and suffering five losses out of nine matches. Under Axar Patel's leadership, they currently occupy the seventh position on the points table, making every upcoming match vital for their playoff aspirations.

On the other hand, the Chennai Super Kings have had a rocky start to the season but have shown signs of recovery. Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, they have won four out of their last six matches. Positioned sixth on the points table, CSK aims to improve their standing with a victory over DC.
