Chennaiyin FC Prepares for Crucial Clash Against Jamshedpur FC in ISL
Chennaiyin FC Set for Away Match Against Jamshedpur FC
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 24: After a series of five consecutive home matches, Chennaiyin FC is gearing up to face Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Complex this Saturday in their 10th fixture of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026.
The Marina Machans head into this match with a solid track record, having secured victories in eight out of their last 16 encounters against the Red Miners across various competitions, while Jamshedpur has managed only three wins, according to an official statement.
Chennaiyin has triumphed in four of their last five meetings, with one match ending in a draw, and they completed a double over Jamshedpur last season, boasting an aggregate score of 10-3.
Despite this favorable history, head coach Clifford Rayes Miranda anticipates a challenging match against a dynamic Jamshedpur side, noting their versatility in possession.
“We expect a game similar to our last one against Inter Kashi, but this time against a stronger opponent that can play both direct and aerial football, as well as possess the ball effectively. Their foreign players are particularly skilled, making them a formidable opponent. We must be prepared to fight, work hard, and function as a cohesive unit,” Miranda stated during a press briefing.
“Our goal is clear: we want to win. There’s no ambiguity about that,” he added.
Chennaiyin enters this match with one point from their last game and aims to secure all three points to gain momentum as the season approaches its conclusion. Currently sitting 10th in the league standings, they are seven points above the relegation zone. Following this match, they will face Punjab FC and NorthEast United away before wrapping up their season at home against Bengaluru FC.
On the topic of maintaining motivation during this crucial phase, Miranda emphasized the players' dedication while calling for further enhancements in their performance.
“I don’t need to provide extra motivation; just looking at the league table is enough. The players are putting in the effort and adhering to the game plan. I have no complaints regarding their commitment or attitude. Although returning to peak physical fitness after a long break has been challenging, they are working hard. To claim they aren’t trying would be inaccurate,” Miranda remarked.
“Naturally, I expect more from them. I want them to exceed our current performance levels,” he added.
Joining Miranda at the press conference was forward Daniel Chima Chukwu, who is returning to familiar territory after previously playing for Jamshedpur. While he acknowledged his ties to the club, he made it clear that his focus is solely on his current team.
“It’s always nice to return here because I have a strong bond with the players, staff, and fans. However, this is football. My time with Jamshedpur has passed, and I’m now committed to Chennai. My objective is to contribute to my team and hopefully secure a win,” Chima stated.
Chima also discussed adapting to Miranda's current system, drawing comparisons to his experiences in Europe: “The style of play here is quite similar to what I encountered in Europe, so I feel more comfortable with this approach than I did previously.”
In terms of team updates, Chennaiyin will be without Klusner Pereira for this match after he was injured during his first start of the season against Mohammedan SC. Decisions regarding the availability of Farukh Choudhary and Irfan Yadwad will be made closer to the match.
