Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Stellar Performance

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], May 10: In a thrilling IPL 2026 encounter, Bhuvneshwar Kumar showcased his exceptional bowling skills, claiming four wickets for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday.

The 36-year-old fast bowler currently leads the wicket-takers list with 21 wickets, earning him the prestigious Purple Cap. This marks the fourth occasion he has surpassed the 20-wicket milestone in an IPL season.

Kumar has previously secured the Purple Cap twice, first in 2016 and again in 2017. He has been particularly effective during the powerplay, taking 12 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.91.

In this match, he dismissed key MI players including Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma, while allowing just 23 runs in his four overs.

This season marks the sixth time he has achieved a three-wicket haul, a feat only matched by Harshal Patel, who recorded six such hauls in the 2021 season.

Despite Bhuvneshwar's outstanding bowling, MI's Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma managed to guide their team to a competitive total of 166/7 after batting first at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium.

Tilak reached his fifty off 37 balls in the 17th over, with MI's score at 149/5. However, Bhuvneshwar struck again, dismissing Tilak in the 18th over and leaving MI at 155/6.

Hazlewood also contributed with a solid performance, taking 1 wicket for 43 runs in 4 overs, including a crucial wicket of RCB's Raj Bawa (16) in the penultimate over.

With MI's Corbin Bosch and Deepak Chahar at the crease, Rasikh Salam Dar bowled the final over, conceding only five runs and ensuring MI finished at 166/7 in their 20 overs.

RCB, coming off two consecutive losses, will need to chase down 167 runs to enhance their chances of reaching the playoffs.
