Bhutan Prime Minister's Official Visit to Assam Strengthens Bilateral Ties

Guwahati, May 25: The Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dasho Tshering Tobgay, arrived in Assam on Monday for an official engagement and is set to meet with Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya later today.


Upon his arrival at State Guest House No. 1 in Koinadhora, Guwahati, Tobgay was warmly welcomed by Assam Cabinet Minister Atul Bora, along with Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, General Administration Department Secretary Narsing Pawar, and other senior officials.


Minister Bora expressed that this visit is anticipated to enhance the relationship between Assam and Bhutan, fostering cooperation across various sectors.


In a social media update following the reception, Bora stated, “I had the privilege of extending a warm welcome to His Excellency Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan, at State Guest House Number One, Koinadhora, Guwahati.”


Emphasizing the historical ties between the two regions, Bora remarked that Assam and Bhutan enjoy a long-standing relationship founded on mutual trust, harmony, and rich socio-cultural connections.


“Our lasting friendship has been nurtured over generations through strong people-to-people interactions, shared traditions, and extensive collaboration across various fields,” he noted.


Bora also mentioned that under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's leadership, Assam has been actively reinforcing its historic connections with Bhutan, emphasizing regional cooperation, mutual respect, and shared prosperity.


“I am confident that the visit of Bhutan's Prime Minister to Assam will further solidify the unique bond between our regions, paving the way for new opportunities in goodwill, cooperation, and cultural exchange for the benefit of our communities,” he added.


A spokesperson from Lok Bhavan indicated that Tobgay is expected to meet with Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.


However, the detailed schedule of the Bhutan Prime Minister's visit had not been disclosed at the time of this report.


Bhutan and Assam share a close geographic and cultural bond, with cross-border interactions encompassing trade, tourism, and exchanges among people, particularly in the western and northern districts adjacent to the Himalayan nation.
