Bevon Jacobs Shares Insights from IPL Experience

Auckland [New Zealand], October 29: New Zealand cricketer Bevon Jacobs has shared his thoughts on his time with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he prepares for the fourth T20I against India. He described the experience as invaluable, highlighting the opportunity to learn in varied conditions. Jacobs expressed his eagerness to return to the IPL, emphasizing how such leagues enhance a player's skill set.

As New Zealand gears up to reclaim their pride in the upcoming T20I match in Auckland, Bevon stands out with 128 runs in three innings, including a half-century. He was signed by the five-time IPL champions ahead of the 2025 season. Although he did not participate in any matches, the exposure to the franchise's environment, alongside Indian cricket stars like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, was beneficial for the uncapped player.

Reflecting on his IPL journey, Jacobs stated, “The experience was significant for me, especially learning in different conditions. It’s refreshing to play away from home, and I’ve since had the chance to visit other locations. However, returning to the Black Caps setup, surrounded by supportive teammates, is always rewarding. Learning from those experiences and the players around you is fantastic.”

Since making his debut against South Africa in June of the previous year, Bevon has accumulated 311 runs in 14 matches, averaging 34.55 with a strike rate of 146.00, including two fifties and a top score of 62 not out.

In addition to the IPL, Jacobs has participated in various leagues, including the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and the International League T20 (ILT20) in the UAE, though he has yet to make a significant impact. Overall, he has scored 1,288 runs in 58 T20 matches at an average of 34.81 and a strike rate of 146.86, with nine fifties and a highest score of 90 not out.

While the prospect of returning to the IPL excites him, Bevon's current focus remains on contributing to the New Zealand team.

“Exploring these opportunities is exciting and certainly adds different dimensions to your game. However, my priority is to contribute to the team and concentrate on the task at hand,” he concluded.
