Rahane's Impressive Return to Form

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] - March 30: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane expressed his contentment with his batting performance, emphasizing his commitment to enhancing his skills in T20 cricket rather than seeking validation from others. He remains unaffected by external criticism.

In the IPL 2026 season opener against the Mumbai Indians, Rahane scored a commendable 67 runs off 40 deliveries. This match marked his return to the field after a break since December 2025.

Amidst speculation regarding his future, Rahane made a strong statement with his impressive innings at the Wankhede Stadium.

"I am genuinely pleased with my current batting form. My goal isn't to prove my talent to anyone. Let them observe and comment, but I am focused on my growth as a player over the past few years in T20 cricket. It's crucial for me to evolve as a batsman, and that’s my priority. People will always have opinions, and that’s fine," Rahane shared with reporters post-match.

Despite Rahane's efforts, KKR fell short as Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma's stellar performances led MI to a convincing six-wicket win.

With contributions from Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and a late surge from Rinku Singh, KKR managed to set a total of 220 runs in their innings.

Rahane felt that the score was respectable and believed they were on track to reach around 240 runs, but MI's Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional bowling in the final overs limited them to 220.

Bumrah bowled the 18th and 20th overs, conceding only 19 runs while facing established batsmen Angkrish and Rinku.

"Initially, we thought 220 was a solid score, and we aimed for 235 or 240. However, those two overs from Bumrah made a significant impact. I understand why he is regarded as one of the best bowlers," he added.
