Rahane Commends Green's Performance in IPL Match

In Ahmedabad, during the IPL 2026 match on Friday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane expressed admiration for all-rounder Cameron Green, who scored a commendable 79 runs against the Gujarat Titans (GT). Despite KKR's defeat by five wickets, marking their fifth consecutive loss in the tournament, Rahane highlighted Green's courageous batting performance.

KKR struggled early in their innings, finding themselves at 32-3 within just four overs. Green then partnered with Rovman Powell, who contributed 27 runs, to form a crucial 55-run partnership. He later teamed up with Anukul Roy, adding another 60 runs, ultimately leading KKR to a total of 180 runs in their 20 overs—a challenging target given their initial struggles.

In the post-match press conference, Rahane praised Green's ability to counterattack during a difficult phase for the team. He noted that Green's innings was the only fifty from KKR's batting lineup, showcasing remarkable courage under pressure.

"His innings were incredible. We were in a tough spot at three wickets down, but he counterattacked effectively. It’s never easy in such situations, but his bravery was commendable. We reached 180 largely due to Cameron Green's contributions," Rahane remarked.

GT, led by captain Shubman Gill's impressive 86 runs, successfully chased down KKR's score with two balls to spare, handing Rahane's team their fifth straight loss in IPL 2026.

Despite the ongoing losses, Ajinkya Rahane emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive outlook and focusing on one match at a time. He acknowledged the difficulty of losing but reassured that the team is committed to giving their best and remains optimistic. Rahane stressed the need to stay present and avoid overthinking future matches.

"We are taking it one game at a time. It’s challenging to keep losing, but everyone is putting in their best effort. We all want to win, but that’s the nature of sports," he stated.

"There’s always hope, and we prefer to focus on the positives rather than dwell on the negatives. As a team, we must remain in the moment and strive to perform our best in each game," Rahane concluded.

Currently, KKR sits at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table, having not secured a win in six matches. They have faced five defeats and had one match abandoned against the Punjab Kings, leaving them with just one point.
