Abhishek Sharma Shines in IPL 2025

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 13: In a stunning display during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Abhishek Sharma unleashed a remarkable innings, scoring 141 runs off just 55 deliveries against Punjab Kings (PBKS). His explosive performance included 14 boundaries and 10 sixes, achieving an impressive strike rate of 256.36, leaving the PBKS bowlers struggling to respond.

The left-handed batsman, who had been seeking his form, finally showcased his talent, punishing the Punjab bowlers with a combination of powerful hitting and fearless strokes.

After the match, PBKS spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi acknowledged that the team missed critical opportunities that allowed Abhishek to dominate the game. He stated, “Abhishek played exceptionally well, but we missed a few chances — one was a no-ball, and we let a couple slip away.”

Joshi added, “In T20 cricket, it’s often hit or miss, and today Abhishek capitalized on his chances.”

Despite PBKS's attempts to regain control, Abhishek's onslaught proved insurmountable. This innings is likely to be remembered as one of the most commanding batting performances of the season and could signify a pivotal moment for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

With this remarkable innings, Abhishek set a new record for the highest individual score by an Indian player in IPL history, surpassing KL Rahul's previous record of 132 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2020.

Overall, this score ranks as the third-highest in IPL history, following Chris Gayle's 175* for RCB in 2013 and Brendon McCullum's innings for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008.

Abhishek's innings saw him score 116 runs through boundaries, breaking Jonny Bairstow's record of 90 runs for the most runs in an innings by an SRH player via boundaries. Additionally, his 10 sixes set a new record for the most by an SRH player in a single innings, surpassing David Warner's previous record of eight.

In the match, PBKS won the toss and opted to bat first. A solid 66-run partnership between Priyansh Arya (36 runs off 13 balls) and Prabhsimran Singh (42 runs off 23 balls) set a strong foundation for PBKS. Captain Shreyas Iyer contributed significantly with a half-century, scoring 82 runs off 36 balls, while Marcus Stoinis added a quick 34* off 11 balls, leading PBKS to a total of 245/6 in their 20 overs.

For SRH, Harshal Patel (4/42) and Eshan Malinga (2/45) were the standout bowlers. In response, Abhishek (141 runs off 55 balls) and Travis Head (66 runs off 37 balls) formed a formidable partnership of 171 runs. After Head's dismissal, Abhishek continued his assault, with Heinrich Klaasen (21*) and Ishan Kishan (9*) helping to chase down the massive target.

This chase marks the second-highest in IPL history, following PBKS's record of 262 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders last year. Currently, SRH sits in eighth place with two wins and four losses, while PBKS is in sixth place with three wins and two losses.
