Abhishek Sharma's Century Leads Sunrisers Hyderabad to Dominant IPL Victory
Sunrisers Hyderabad's Stellar Performance
In a thrilling IPL match held in Hyderabad on April 21, Abhishek Sharma delivered a remarkable performance, scoring an unbeaten 135 runs, which marked his second IPL century. His explosive innings, complemented by a quick 37 runs from Heinrich Klaasen, propelled Sunrisers Hyderabad to a formidable total of 242 runs for 2 wickets against Delhi Capitals.
Sharma's innings featured 10 impressive sixes, showcasing his dominance at the crease. Klaasen's contribution was equally significant, as he struck 37 runs off just 13 balls, including three sixes and four boundaries.
After being invited to bat first, Sharma and Travis Head provided a rapid start, accumulating nine runs in the opening over. Despite a tight second over from Nitish Rana, the momentum shifted back to SRH as both openers found the boundary against Mukesh Kumar.
Lungi Ngidi's entry in the fourth over saw him concede 10 runs, while Sharma and Head capitalized on Rana's bowling, scoring 20 runs in the next over to establish a brisk 50-run partnership.
Sharma concluded a powerful powerplay with a six, leading SRH to 67 runs without losing a wicket. DC captain Axar Patel, playing his 100th match for the team, managed to restrict runs in his first over, allowing only seven runs.
Sharma reached his fifty in just 25 balls, marking the slowest of his six IPL fifties in Hyderabad. He also crossed the 2000-run milestone in IPL, joining the ranks of David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, and Kane Williamson.
As the innings progressed, Sharma and Kishan attacked Kuldeep Yadav, scoring 22 runs in one over. Sharma's second IPL century came in just 47 balls, equaling Virat Kohli's record for the most T20 centuries by an Indian.
This innings also marked the second time Sharma hit 10 sixes in an IPL match, making him only the second player to achieve this feat multiple times, following Chris Gayle.
With the score surpassing 200 runs by the 17th over, Klaasen continued the assault, hitting two sixes off Ngidi in the 18th over. He became the third fastest player to reach 100 sixes in IPL history.
Natarajan bowled a brilliant 19th over, conceding just six runs, and SRH concluded their innings at 242-2, with Klaasen and Sharma adding 20 runs in the final over.
